I'm thinking of getting into cover artwork and it'd be really useful to hear what you guys like. So what's your favourite cover artwork (single/album/record/cd etc)?
If you could post a pic and say the artist/album name and an explanation of what you like about it. Thanks

'the white album' by the Beatles...simplicity at its best..total contrast to the music that lay within the gatefold sleeves. and shows just how big they were as a group, no name,no pic on the cover yet everybody knows who it is...the Fab 4 were at a stage where they could probably record farting and belching and it would still go to #1 all over the world, i'd actually like to know who came up with the idea of the album cover.
'the wall' by Pink Floyd...a stark cover depicting white bricks across the cover with their name scrawled across it, simplicity at its best also, but the cover in this case is as bleak as the music within
my two favourite covers this year are Robert Plant 'band of joy' and Elvis Costello 'national ransom'...great works of art

They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd - that picture of the veil in the avenue of trees is just awesone. Matches the music perfectly.

^ Further to that, I think the absolute pinnacle of cover art has to be the work of Hipgnosis. Design company owned by Pink Floyd mate Storm Thorgerson.
I love the cover to Pink Floyd's
Animals, with the flying pig:
Another of theirs, which I haven't heard, but like the cover is
Deloused in The Comatorium by Mars Volta:

While I agree 100% with your statement Tiggi, there are 2 others that I think are worth mentioning. The obvious one is Roger Dean. The not-so-obvious one is James Marsh. Check it out. (Talk Talk)

A few of my favourites ...............There are more but these will do as a start

mile:
ELP Brain Salad Surgery...................There is an ominous feel to this a futuristic time whem man and machine are as one.
THe gryphon one is a great piece of imaginative art that goes with the image of Gryphon
This is a favourite as it shows a collection of things gathered on a nature walk through the Yorkshire dales and reflects the innocent times of how people used to worship and live by the rhythm of the seasons
Year of the cat is so clever, everything on this cover has a cat feel and is so stylish.......................I love the dreamworlds of Rogr Dean ..........this one is one of the rarer ones and looks less fantasy like and more like a real place

IN this batch.........this is a great story in the cover picture !!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )
