Walter Trout. What can I say man apart from what an incredible guitarist! If anyone gets the chance to see him live, you should go! I'm talking Rory Gallagher material!

Of course he's not jazz, and certainly not blues. He's just Dino. Guess I coulda gone pop since some of these tracks are covers of pop standards. But here I am. Always thought Dean Martin ranked at the top of the crooners of the day. Yes, better than Frank or Tony. Sadly he never reached that stature. Dean was an entertainer. He could do it all, tv, movies, music. Just check out that first clip. A true indicator of someone at the top of his game. For this album, Dean was not at that peak, but it'll pass. Only one exceptional track for me (no clip of course), but even not at his best, the voice was just so smooth. One lone dud which evens things out nicely. It would only reach #113 on the charts, but Dean still had his core audience, who were aging by this time. Dean himself, would age quite gracefully, carrying on until 1995, when he passed at the ripe old age of 78.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - For Once In My Life

Best Track - Invisible Tears

Invisible tears in my eyes
Incredible pain in my heart
Indestructable memories are passing in review
Impossible though things may get
Improbable I will forget
Indelible memories of sweet loveable you

You're back again
So I let you in
Altough I'm only seeing pictures of the past
Those lines are not real
But somehow I feel
If I just close my eyes then maybe it will last

Invisible tears in my eyes
incredible pain in my heart
indestructible memories are passing in review
Impossible though things may get
Improbable I will forget
Indelible memories of sweet lovable you

this may ruffle a few feathers but i never rated Ole Blue Eyes as a great singer, i thought he was overrated, dino on the other hand i rate highly, he has a beautiful voice that few can match, that said, i cannot stand the movies he made with jerry Lewis.

Although I love Frank, I never thought he had a very wide vocal range, thus Dino ranks much higher.

Agree about the movies of Dino with Jerry. He did have some decent acting roles in non comedy stuff.
I think the turn off may have been more due to Jerry. Just too corny. Dean as a straight man just didn't mesh.
But I do like some slapstick, Abott & Costello, Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, Bowery Boys, Marx Brothers.

Not a big fan of elevator music, which is what this is. Not sure where I picked it up. Yard sale probably, although it is in mint condition, which is unusual for yard sale material. Mr. Fountains instrument was the carinet which is one of my least favorite wind instruments, slightly above the kazoo and the comb. I will grant an exception for Benny Goodman. Pete was a regular on Lawrence Welks show for years and is well known for promoting that Dixieland sound, being a New Orleans native. Over 100 lp's to his credit, so he must have done something right. The guy is still kickin' at age 80. The covers here are of mostly pop standards of the day. Title track belongs to Herb Alpert only thank you. A few get a passing grade but mostly a downer for me. Henry VIII is terrible and it still might be better than Hermans. As with his the second verse is same as the first.

One of the lesser known influential jazz trumpet players of the day. Played in bands with some of the greats, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and two of my personal favorites, Charlie Parker and Art Blakey. Kenny made quite a few albums with his own band, this one back in 1960. Only six tracks here, which was customary for jazz albums of the era. Longer tracks of course. Only one did nothing for me. The older I get, the more I appreciate this type of music. Classical and Jazz are the only genres I can say that about. Nothing available from this album on youtube, so I included a short bad clip of a live performance. Not sure when it's from.

Ray would have also fit nicely in the r&b/soul slot. In fact most of these songs charted very well on that chart. And how about that country album, from which my favorite comes from. Covers don't get any better than that. Probably as many compilations as studio albums out there. This is a Rhino collection that gives a good overall view of the man. From the 50's up to that superb duet with Willie Nelson in 1984. Just misses the love mark. Missing one of my favorite songs of Born To Lose. That would have done the trick.

Best Track - I Can't Stop Loving You

(I can't stop loving you)
I've made up my mind
To live in memory of the lonesome times
(I can't stop wanting you)
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday
(Dreams of yesterday)
Those happy hours that we once knew
Tho' long ago, they still make me blue
They say that time heals a broken heart
But time has stood still since we've been apart
(I can't stop loving you)
I've made up my mind
To live in memories of the lonesome times
(I can't stop wanting you)
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday
(Those happy hours)
Those happy hours
(That we once knew)
That we once knew
(Tho' long ago)
Tho' long ago
(Still make me blue)
Still ma-a-a-ake me blue
(They say that time)
They say that time
(Heals a broken heart)
Heals a broken heart
(But time has stood still)
Time has stood still
(Since we've been apart)
Since we've been apart
(I can't stop loving you)
I said I made up my mind
To live in memory of the lonesome times
<Sing a song, children>
(I can't stop wanting you)
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life of dreams of yesterday

i agree, Ray would fit in the 'soul/r&b' genre, thats the thing i dislike about genres, you know labelling artists, my Jackie Wilson 'listening to' in the 'soul/r&b' genre would have been just as fitting here. i get so confused sometimes over which genre to put my reviews into because of that reason.
How do you fit Neil Young into a 'genre'? he's done just about everything, except heavy metal/classical, whereas genres are justified for the likes of PF, Stones, Macca, Madonna, and a million other artists.
