How do you do?
#1
Hello,

I'm entirely new to all this so forgive me if I appear a little green.

I was looking at Bill Drummonds 17 he kinda suggests that recorded music is over. That the genre of recorded music was exploited by the free market and has nothing to do with place or time. But what if you stumble upon a dusty peaice of vinyl that speaks to you? I know that when I listen to 'Rock n' Roll Nigger' by Patti Smith that it does something to my brain chemistry and it's a very powerful feeling. Perhaps recorded music can't change anything en masse but perhaps it can provoke thought and feeling in the individual.

ANYWAY, very nice to virtually meet you. I also like Joanna Newsome, Claire Nicolson and Bette Harris. Must be the least known on that list so check her out!

Speak to me if you're out there!

Hi and welcome to MD!

Think your right that recorded music has taken a bit of a back seat , maybe that means this is the age of the live act!Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

How do you listen to something again if it has not been recorded? All music that is played is recorded in some format or another. Unless it's purely performed once-off never to be heard again.

Conclusion - It must have worked.

Hello Bridgit, & welcome to MD.

Mr Drummond's a clever chap, but I think he's overstating the case. I'd agree that it's in something of a decline as an artform, in that it seems to be becoming of less importance to people, but I believe it still has a few decades at least.

Good discussion point for an intro, you'll fit in well here...

Hope you enjoy the site.
