I have been a music related collector for some 40 years so I guess I can give some sort of guide

The first area I would look at is recorded material ( CD Vinyl etc)

• Rare records of big bands
  
• Overseas issues of albums singles EPs ect
  
• Export copies of UK albums
  
• Promotional copies of albums singles
  
• Radio station only issues of albums
  
• Early albums of obscure groups which feature people who went onto become famous
  
• Acetates
  
• Unreleased albums , singles etc
  
• Withdrawn albums
  
• 78s or particular bands such as The Beatles....Elvis......The Stones
  
• Autographs with authentication
  
• Hand written lyrics
  
• Songwriters drafts cassettes , acetates etc of unreleased songs
  
• Signed guitars
  
• Posters with autographs
  
• Personal letters ..etc
  
• Clothes worn by famous artists
  
• Photographs of artists ot taken by them
  
• Books
  

The list could go on and on

The Holy Grail ..........Beatles promo singles....................Beatles Butcher covers...................Beatles Acetates...................Guitars owned by Beatles or Elvis

For me personally................things given by the artist to me.
