Interview with Gryphon about the Weekly Album Review:
I caught up with Gryphon on a rather dull April day on The Island In The Mass and obtained this beief interview:
And I started by asking him how the idea started?
Well a few of us had been thinking that we would like to have an album review on the forum but I guess I was the one who voiced it.
Did it take long to put it together ?
No , with the co-operation of a few of the members , it was up and running within a week.
Who chooses the albums?
Mostly the members of the forum but when the time frame gets tight or we have technical problems , then I step in.
Have you had many technical problems?
There have been a few, the review relies on us being able to post a link to a source of the music...mostly we look for a free download , or if we can a steam from an approved site....the streams go well but the downloads can be more complex................we have members from all around the world and sometimes an steam maybe open to some members and not to others.......at times the streams are shut down as some record companies see them as lost revenue .......and at other time it may just not be possible to find one in time.
Can you give any examples of albums for which it was hard to get a source?
Yeah! recently we wanted to review Peace and Love By Juliana Hatfield but it was not possible to find a link in time.
What do you do in these cases ?
Usually we wait a while and hope that a link will appear at a later date.
How long has the review been running?
We are just entering our thirteenth review.................the schedule is to do an album aweek and mostly that works quite well.
What form do the reviews take?
Usually it depends on the member....................some write a track by track account , some settle for a brief overview of only a few lines.
What innovations would you like to see in the future?
In the last few days we have introduced new software at MD and this has allowed us to blog the reviews................as we get the feel of this idea i believe it will lead us to a wider audience.......AS we go on I would like to look into including video albums as well are purely audio ones ..
So one last question as you reach the three month mark................. what is this week’s review?
Well normally we don’t give previews but if all goes well we will take a suggestion from a fellow member and review our first rap album : Rise up by Cypress Hill

Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )
