Desperately seeking similar music to the song "Mondo Bongo" lazy, gritty, Span Guitar
#1
Mondo Bongo by Joe Strummer (is a song on the Mr. & Mrs Smith soundtrack, but dont let that scare you) is a lazy, romantic, Spanish guitar song with gritty vocals and I swear Ive been trying to find a name for the genre or a similar song and am having the hardest time.

Most of Joe Strummers music does not sound exactly like this song and this song is exactly what I want to hear more of.

ANY guidance or direction toward more artists or a name for the genre or sub-genre would be SO appreciated. Thanks, Holly

The genre would have to be Lazy, Romantic, Spanish Guitar Songs With Gritty Vocals.

Can't really think of anything in that vein, so I'm afraid this will be a bit of a disappointment...

Sorry.

The basic style reminds me of the following:

Basics are Jack Johnston for the feel......

Going way back the guitar style can be found on one or two Shadows tracks where Hank Marvin et al play flamenco guitar easy:

Paco Pena has a delightful guitar style not unlike that....

Magna Carta ..............Strangers in the Land of Ulysses

The feel also reminds me of Coconut Grove by The Lovin' Spoonful

Finally I feel there is a touch of JJ Cale in the idea somewhere

Try those for startersCool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.
.............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )

hi, I'm looking for similar music right now. i thin it's more or less slow latin dance music (sounds like a kind of latin RnB!) although the mescaleros didn't create any more songs like this.

first hint: federico aubele Wink
he's the most similar artist i could find till now but I'm not done yet.

I also love this song! The closest to it that I have found are the songs of Carlos Puebla, e.g. Hasta Siempre.
Hope this helps Smile
