HOODOO GURUS "magnum cum louder" cd 1989
a revisit
their fourth studio album
like its predecessor it starts of really well but drops off about half way through before picking up again in the back half
the difference being that overall the tracks arent as good as the third album ones.
still a decent listen but rates 2.1 for me which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

HOODOO GURUS "kinky" cd, 1991
a revisit
their fifth of ten
a solid rock album that has all the energy and raw power of their debut album
songs are all well crafted, even the four bonus tracks are the equal to the standard album tracks
album rates 2.5 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
favourite track wasnt even issued as a single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

HOODOO GURUS "crank" cd 1994
a revisit
their sixth studio album
still has all the iconic Gurus' sounds but also sounds like a genuine rock album here also
favourite song wasnt even sung by Dave Faulkner but by guitarist Brad Shepherd.
solid album that peaked at #2 on the aussie albums chart.
album rates a decent 2.2 for me which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

HOODOO GURUS "blue cave" cd/vinyl 1996
a revisit
their seventh studio album
a fairly heavy rock album by their standards,
suspecting they were influenced by grunge at the time, maybe?
still sounds like them due to Faulkner's distinct vocals though
nothing overly exciting on here but still decent overall,
their weakest up to that point but still rates 2.0 for me which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

PAUL McCARTNEY "new" cd, 2013
a revisit
his sixteenth solo album not including collaborations, electronica, classical and soundtracks
i put it in alternative because it does not quite fit 'rock' or 'pop'
my God, i have really tried to like this one over the years but i just dont
three or four passable tracks but thats about it for me
i do love the cover art though
album would rate 1.3 which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
my favourite:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

TOYAH "in the court of the crimson queen"
borrowed from a neighbour
her fifteenth solo album of sixteen, and twentieth of twenty-one
released in2008 but had a reissue in 2019 with a different cover.
husband Robert Fripp came up with the album title as a bit of a joke but it stuck LOL
some solid rock on here
elements of alt rock also
hearing little bits of Bowie throughout, (berlin trilogy era)
a really good album actually, much better than the previous one i borrowed off him ("prostitute)
album would score a high like rating (2.2-ish) which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

MELANIE MARTINEZ "portals" vinyl, 2023
her third of three,
only thing i own
art-pop, alt-pop and at times 'out there' like the cover art and videos
album was my 4th favourite album of '23, would it be there now?
im not sure, i still really like it but would have dropped from its initial score of 2.5 at the time
if you want a "sound-a-like" i suggest Sia more tha anyone else
album now scores a still healthy 2.3 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

AUSTRALIAN CRAWL "the boys light up" cd/vinyl 1980
a revisit
Aussie band,
debut of four, i own the first three
not quite pop but not quite rock either so "alternative" it is
only three hits off this album but another three tracks still get regular radio play on the 'classics' stations
songs are jaunty, uplifting, light and breezy for the most part
if i had to pick a 'similar to' it might be "business as usual" by Men At Work
album is considered a classic here amongst rock purists and experts and i agree with them
album scores an impressive 2.7 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
title track:
