What Are You Listening To?

ROB ZOMBIE  "the electric warlock acid witch satanic orgy celebration dispenser"  cd, 2016

a revisit
the former metal White Zombie singer's sixth solo album
theres some hard rock on here, some hip-hop scratch stuff
but mostly it appears to be a parody of his former self, almost comical and novelty at times
a good album but anywhere near as good as his debut solo set "hillbilly deluxe"
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

the lead off single, song starts at the 4 minute mark:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

PANTERA  "cowboys from hell" cd, 1990.

a revisit...
thrash metal, one quarter of the so-called "big four" with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeath, Metallica being the only one i like
their fifth of nine, only thing i own and doubt on the strength of this i would buy any more....
first 'major label' release and first to chart anywhere...
typical metal band, all the songs sound the same but they throw in a "power ballad" for good measure
album wears thin very quickly and i wasnt impressed on this occasion
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite is the power ballad:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

PAUL STANLEY  "paul stanley/KISS"  cd/vinyl  1978

a revisit
put this on in the car today and was slightly underwhelmed by it
i always rated Ace and Peter's solo records from the same time as superior to this and Gene's though
some decent hard rocking riffs but lacked a spark on this listen
i guess it just sounds like a KISS record, nothing more and nothing less but that said
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

AC/DC  "the razors edge"  cd,  1990

a revisit
their twelfth studio album of seventeen, sixth with Brian Johnston on vocals
i own the eleven Johnston albums, not a fan of the early Bon Scott years
their second best album after "back in black" IMO
contains their greatest song ever also (linked below)
album scores 2.6 for me which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

their greatest song:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

DREAM THEATER  "metropolis II: scenes from a memory"  cd  1999

prog-metal band
their fifth studio album of sixteen, i own eight
concept album
its about a woman who has vivid nightmares about being murdered so she goes to see a psychiatrist
after repeat hypnosis sessions she discovers she was murdered in a previous life and killer was never caught
it later turns out her killer is the psychiatrist she is seeing and a cat and mouse game commences.
album is loosely based on a 1991 thriller/horror movie called: Dead Again
my favourite album of theirs scoring 2.4 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

as it is a concept album it does not really lend itself to individual tracks but here goes:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

THE SWORD  "high country"  cd  2015

from USofA
metal/hard-rock band
fifth album of six, only one i own
sounds more rock than hard rock or metal
maybe they softened their sound as they progressed
not a bad album, certainly not as good as i remembered it to be though
i think 1.8 is a good score here which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

title track:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

MEAT LOAF  "welcome to the neighbourhood"  cd  1995

his seventh studio album
solid album
four covers, one from Steinman's "bad for good album (left in the dark)
one from Steinman's side project Pandoras Box (original sin)
a Tom Waits song (martha)
and a re-write of the old Easybeats song "good times" renamed (running for the red light)
the rest of the album are originals
great stuff, probably my third favourite of his scoring 2.4 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lead off single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

KISS  "alive III"  cd  1993

a revisit
recorded during the 1992 "revenge" tour at various locations
a lot of very good stuff on here
but also some songs from that 83-90 period i am not keen on
overall album scores 1.9 because of the overdubs  but it still means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

two from the revenge album:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

MARILYN MANSON  "holy wood (in the shadow of the valley of death)"  cd  2000

their fourth of twelve
purchased for $1 at a record fair earlier today
listened through this one twice since i got it
this is classic Manson,
its chaotic, its dark, foreboding and drenched in their heavy guitar sounds
i cant say i love it yet but its pretty bloody good
a provisional early score of 2.2 means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

lead off single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.
