What Are You Listening To?
^I do like the album. All of it - I think it's one of those near perfect packages. Anyway - it's subjective, as always!  Cool

I agree with you Ruby. Great album but also one of the best engineered albums IMO. The whole album has a unique sheen to it.

JIMMY BARNES  "heat"  cd 1993

from Lynne's cd collection
Aussie rock/blues rock/pub rock artist
sixth solo album of twenty-one
i own a handful but not this one
a slightly heavier sound to this than most of his
album peaked at #2 here, his lowest charting album since 1980 (including Cold Chisel releases)
i do not care for most of these sixteen tracks, liking six and loving one,
the one i do love is the only slow song on the album very much in the 1960s R+B Otis Redding style
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

fav:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & THE MAGIC BAND  "lick my decals off, baby"

i thought i would listen to something and someone im not familiar with at all
Beefheart's fourth album and biggest seller, this and his third are regarded by fans as his best
i tried Zappa a couple of weeks ago and thought i'd give Beefheart a go this time...
well that was as bad a s the Zappa album
i just do not 'get it'
it/he is out there on his own little island and i dont want to be marooned with him whatsoever.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

only thing that came close to me liking it:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

BRIAN FALLON  "painkillers"  cd, 2016

a revisit
from New Jersey
lead vocals for Gaslight Anthem
debut solo album
a good mix of rock, soft rock and slower songs on here
lovely storytelling throughout
still has that Springsteen vibe but not as much as a Gaslight Anthem album
album still sounds fresh and energetic since its release a decade ago (bloody hell!, feels like yesterday since i purchased it!)
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite on this occasion and it was not a single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

TED NUGENT  "cat scratch fever"

his third album
originally released in 1977
thought i would pick the most popular album by an artist i know little about again...
started with Zappa, then Beefheart and now Nugent...
okay, so this is straight forward classic rock and roll but it does border on 'hard rock' at times
nothing clever or inventive just dirty, raunchy gritty rock
not sure i would go out of my way to purchase anything unless it was on discount or i managed to find some cheap vinyl at a car boot sale
some of it isnt too bad but its just too repetitive overall which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD  "closer to home"

another artist im not familiar with
this time its rockers Grand Funk Railroad with their third studio album and was released in 1970
their most successful in terms of sales also
this is rough and ragged in places, heavy and almost psychedelic in others with funky grooves throughout
yeah, this album is pretty darn good from a first up listen, much better than Nugent, Beefheart and the Zappa listens IMO
album would rank a pretty good 2.2 on a first up listen

INXS  "shabooh shoobah"  vinyl  1982

from Lynne's vinyl collection
Aussie rockers, their third album
inconsistent, which is how i find the albums i am familiar with (except "listen like thieves" which i love)
that said, i do love the cover art

Camel's 'Nude' album. A masterpiece of the prog rock genre.
