JOHNNY CASH "american reocrdings" cd 1994
a revisit
on the cover, those two dogs were strays that apparently just showed up and sat by Cash as he was preparing for the shot
the final comeback and what better way to do it than open the album with a 'murder ballad'
produced by Rick Rubin and introduced him to a whole new generation of fans
lots of covers of songs Cash loved and several he wrote (and re-recorded here)
no band, just Cash and guitar
who'd have known that the success of this one would spawn another five albums in the series
album would rank 2.4 on this occasion which means....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
favourite track is the opening 'murder ballad"
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

a double set containing 34 tracks,
contains tracks he recorded in the 1960s through tot he 1990s
just about everything is a cover, hes a great covers artist.
a couple of duets with Bobby Gentry and another with Ernie Ford
i never used to be a fan but have grown to love his style over the last few years
a pleasant change of pace for a Sunday morning as we go from here to there, to someplace else and back again, LOL...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

FREAKWATER "scheherazade" cd, 2016
a revisit
alt country/bluegrass band from Louisville, Kentucky
tenth of ten albums, only one i own
Wiki says theyre still active but have had no albums in a decade
this is really bad,
none of the voices marry up as pleasant harmonies
the songs themselves are disjointed and seem to lack structure on every level
very little on here that i like
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
best song happens to be the single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

RODRIGUEZ "coming from reality" cd 1971
a revisit
Rodriguez' second and final studio album
sort of a psychedelic-rock/folk sounding album
a bit more musically adventurous than the debut and almost as good
its a total injustice and travesty IMO how this guy never received the accolades and success he deserved
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
heres one you might like:

her debut
folky/bluegrass/country....ie: Americana

STURGILL SIMPSON "metamodern sounds in country music" cd/vinyl 2014
a revisit
his second of eight, i own all eight
title pays homage to Ray Charles' "modern sounds in country and western music" album
album is strictly country with a couple of more folk type tunes and hints of psychedelic-folk in the mix
excellent album, rates a 2.6 for me which means....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
his signature tune: if youve never heard this song, give it a go you WILL like it (maybe)
I've seen Jesus play with flames in a lake of fire that I was standing in
Met the devil in Seattle and spent 9 months inside the lions' den
Met Buddha yet another time
He showed me a glowing light within
But I swear that God is there
Every time I glare into the eyes of my best friend.
Says my son, it's all been done
Someday you're gonna wake up old and gray
So go and try to have some fun showing warmth to everyone
You meet and greet and cheat along the way.
There's a gateway in our minds
That leads somewhere out there far beyond this plane
Where reptile aliens made of light cut you open and pull out all your pain
Tell me how you make illegal something that we all make in our brain
Some say you might go crazy
Then again, it might make you go sane.
Every time I take a look inside inside that old and fabled book
I'm blinded and reminded of the pain caused by some old man in the sky
Marijuana, LSD, psilocybin, and DMT, they all changed the way I see
Love's the only thing that ever saved my life.
So don't waste your mind on nursery rhymes
And fairy tales of blood and wine
It's turtles all the way down the line
So to each their own 'til we go home
To other realms our souls must roam
To and through the myth that we all call space and time
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

WILLIE NELSON "red headed stranger" cd/vinyl 1975
a revisit
been so long since i pulled out some Willie (NB: it is pulled out willie and not pulled willie) LOL
i remember MH recommending this album back when i joined MD 15yrs ago so i bought it
i didnt like it then because it wasnt slick and polished like "stardust", "always on my mind" and others i owned
i have however, over time, come to really appreciate this album as his "masterpiece"
a terrific album that is now possibly my favourite of his rating an excellent 2.6
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
impossible to not pick this one:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.
