UK TOP 100'S (#21+)

UK TOP 100 SHORT REVIEW 18.04.25 #29

This week I've had less time, so here's a review of just the new entries!

NEW ENTRIES:

96. Angel Of Mine – Tobiahs (5/10)

It's 2025; can we drop these glitchy 2000s-type club music songs? It's sickening and as messy as the viral Will Smith AI spaghetti video. Just downright something that you've heard somewhere else.

90. Don't Wake Me Up – James Hype (5/10)

It's been a while since James has appeared for me; the last time I remember was with his biggest hit song, 'Ferrari', in 2022, which sampled a Diddy song from the early 2000s. I saw the clips on YouTube where people spoke about which they preferred out of Hype or Diddy. But now he's back, and I'm not sure if this is a sample, but it's pretty basic DJing; it's a looped electronic female voice saying "Don't Wake Me Up", pretty much lazily, and it showcases his over a decade-long career, giving this.

86. Lachryma - Ghost (7/10)

Not a fan of the things the band say and promote, but I must admit that the guitar rock and lead vocals are quite impressive; I see why they're going above many rock acts in the UK charts.

48. Blink Twice – Shaboozey/Myles Smith (7/10)

This just made it into a 7/10 or green rating; that was incredibly tight. Now, I may not be the biggest fan of Myles, and this collaboration may not be a big or even small step to making anything that's more original, but it's pretty damn catchy. It feels like the whole song hits as a hook with the guitar kicking in and the lively melody, which from the start pulls you into the experience quickly. This is a part of Shaboozey's deluxe version of his country album, which contains his hit song 'A Bar Song (Tipsy).'

30. Henry, Come On – Lana Del Rey (8.3/10)

It's Lana's signature; she uses her soft vocals along with slow and expressive instrumentals that help bring across the meaning of the song. It's better than 'Tough' and brings hope for the rest of the album!

The first one was for the US charting position and the second was for the UK one. If you are referring to the score that may of been a mess up on my end- 8.7 was meant to be my score for 'Bluebird' her second single.

I just made a mix up. Sometimes I do naturally change my score but in this case, I didn't.

UK TOP 100 SUMMARY AND REVIEW 25.04.25 #30

THE TOP TEN:

10. Bad Dreams – Teddy Swims (Down 1/31 charting weeks)
9. Love Me Not – Ravyn Lenae (Up 1/NEW PEAK/11 weeks in chart)
8. Busy Woman – Sabrina Carpenter (No Change/10 weeks in chart)
7. Beautiful Things – Benson Boone (No Change/66 weeks in chart)
6. Sports Car – Tate McRae (Down 1/13 weeks in chart)
5. Anxiety – Doechii (Down 1/7 weeks in chart)
4. Show Me Love – WizTheMC/Bees & Honey (Up 2/NEW PEAK/8 weeks in chart)
3. Azizam – Ed Sheeran (No Change/3 weeks in chart)
2. Pink Pony Club – Chappell (No Change/23 weeks in chart)
1. Ordinary – Alex Warren (No Change/6 consecutive weeks number one/11 weeks in the chart)

NEW ENTRIES:

90. Spring Into Summer – Lizzy McAlpine (6.9/10)

It's been quite a while since I've heard Lizzy – at times she can be boring, but I think she has potential. With this it isn't like she's giving us the 'Ceilings' of 2023; it's not as good as that, but it has a warm and chilled feel that separates it from other charting songs. Lizzy could make this a hit, but I think most likely it won't be.

82. Closer To The Floor – Jazzy/Ankhoi (7/10)

Jazzy making sways away from your typical dance music is exciting to see, and it's nice to see her dabble in other genres. This has more of an alternative dance sound as it goes into Afro and house while maintaining a dance feeling. It's not basic nor safe, but it is pretty good music. If you like Jazzy's collab with KILAMANJARO, then very likely you'll like this!

80. Bluebird – Lana Del Rey (8.7/10)

Yay! Yet another female pop act who fails to impress no matter what they release; that's another added to my list of the ones I dislike. I've never been a fan of Addison and wasn't expecting anything good out of this, especially seeing she's been on an insane streak of bad, but this is actually better than her usual; 4/10 is an improvement... but overall this is still just some forgettable pop song.

69. Party 4 U – Charli XCX (2/10)

Why is she back AGAIN? And how can people stand minutes of autotuned, repetitive, easily made dance music? It's worse than generic, and it's pretty disturbing how people can find a song at the level of AI anything interesting. Let's hope the resurfacing of the track from 'How I'm Feeling Now' disappears because we don't need this.

50. I Ain't Coming Back – Morgan Wallen/Post Malone (7/10)

After hearing this and finding out Tate McRae is on the album – I'm hyped! This legit might be a good album... but I'm still scared about there being 37 songs on it. This is a classic country song with a more pop radio hook, which is a good follow-up from the 'I Had Some Help' collab. Post delivered a good verse alongside Morgan, but Morgan did better. The use of drums added to the instrumental effect, which I quite enjoyed.

24. Headphones On – Addison Rae (4/10)

Yay! Yet another female pop act who fails to impress no matter what they release; that's another added to my list of the ones I dislike. I've never been a fan of Addison and wasn't expecting anything good out of this, especially seeing she's been on an insane streak of bad, but this is actually better than her usual; 4/10 is an improvement... but overall this is still just some forgettable pop song.

is there a reason why Sultans Of Swing re-entered the charts?, a tv commercial maybe??

Even from Google I can't find out why. Maybe it's for the same reason why big hits like 'Dreams' and more are always sticking around in the top 100... people just think there timeless.

2. Pink Pony Club – Chappell Roan (No Change/Sales fall/24 weeks in chart)
1. Ordinary – Alex Warren (No Change/7th Consecutive week 1/Sales, Downloads and Streaming Climb/12th Week in Chart)

NEW ENTRIES:

94. Pal Pal – Afusic/Alisoomromusic (5.8/10)

'Pal Pal' is a Punjabi love song, which is interesting seeing foreign songs (especially Punjabi) don't chart often. It has simple mastering and engineering, with it serving as an easy-to-digest pop song that doesn't go above and beyond. It has a slower pace and lower pitch sound alongside something that sounds slightly traditionally Indian.

78. Tyrants – Sam Fender (6.5/10)

You can never really understand what Sam's saying, but you just know that it's something emotional. I presume this could be part of People Watching Deluxe; it sounds as good as the collection of songs on that album.

72. I Need To Know – Denon Reed/Cru2 (5/10)

An electronic DJ song which is just a cheap loop, nothing special, and I don't think it needs much of an introduction other than that it's for the club sound.

66. Stateside - PinkPantheress (8/10)

She does it again and even better than last time! This new era by her is looking to be her best yet; the dance-pop has her fun and bouncy feel, which she's known for, and her vocals aren't even annoying to me; I like them.

57. Laho – Shallipopi (5/10)

Afrobeats that don't lift the genre to any new heights use a similar beat to rap and have a normal-paced sound, with Shalli delivering an ok vocal performance that fits the song but doesn't give us extra.

25. Damocles – Sleep Token (3/10)

Really tedious with poor vocals, a simple rock pattern and some piano. Sad that this will probably get traction.

17. Mystical Magical - Benson Boone (7/10)

A step up from 'Sorry I'm Here For Someone Else', this has a melody resembling 'Physical', which is shown more in the chorus. Benson gives a tune which makes you want to dance, but in an elegant way; it's Benson's usual, but it feels like it has more class to it.

11. What Was That – Lorde (4.8/10)

I've always found her voice partly annoying, but I think it shows a lot more on this.

Alt-pop, which showcases that Lorde's album may not be as good as we think.

RE-ENTRIES:

86. Emergence – Sleep Token
[I presume there new song brought this back.]

55. Some Might Say – Oasis
[Not Oasis again...]

NOTEABLE CHANGES:

Songs that climbed 10 spots or more:

87. Now It's Gone – Parallel (Up 11)
84. Girl So Confusing – Charli XCX (Up 16)
38. Hairdresser – Skye Newman (Up 13)
34. Party 4 U – Charli XCX (Up 35) [HIGHEST CLIMBER]

Songs that fell 10 spots or more:

99. Don't Wake Me Up – James Hype (Down 13)
96. Burning Down – Alex Warren (Down 63) [HIGHEST FALLER]
93. Wildflower – Billie Eilish (Down 10)
92. Luther – Kendrick Lamar/SZA (Down 11)
83. I Ain't Coming Back – Morgan Wallen/Post Malone (Down 33)

67. Call Me When You Break Up – Gomez/Blanco/Abrams (Down 14)
54. Blink Twice – Shaboozey/Myles Smith (Down 10)
46. Abracadabra – Lady Gaga (Down 10)

BEST AND WORST:

New entries:

BEST – Stateside – PinkPantheress
WORST – Damocles – Sleep Token

THE WHOLE TOP 100:

9. Sports Car – Tate McRae (Down 1/Sales Fall/15 weeks in chart)
8. Anxiety – Doechii (Dowm 2/Sales fall/9 weeks in chart)
7. Beautiful Things – Benson Boone (No change/Sales fall/69 weeks in charts)
6. Undressed – Sombr (Up 7/NEW PEAK/7 weeks in chart)
5. Azizam – Ed Sheeran (Dowm 1/Sales climb/5 weeks in chart)

1. Ordinary – Alex Warren (No change/8 consecutive weeks at no. 1/Sales, streaming and downloads fall/13 weeks in the chart)

NEW ENTRIES:

93. Pool – Graverkerz/Kiki Wera (4/10)

A bouncy DJ mix with a voice that sounds like the many others DJ used on top of a bass that just feels lame for how overused it is.

85. With You – Davido/Omah Lay (8.6/10)

I'm not even going to lie when I say this is one of the most genius Afrobeats songs I've ever heard; this is proof that Afrobeats doesn't have to be the same boring sound!! They started the song with some summer-sounding chords and mixed sounds that you don't ever hear in Afrobeats, along with vocals that feel cleverly tuned and placed within the song, and the ending violins were just spot on! There's so much flavour bursting into the song that it's constantly moving; I've never heard such a packed production before!

69. Priceless – Maroon 5/LISA (2.5/10)

This just made me mad; it's a flimsy love pop song, which Maroon 5 and LISA gave no energy to whatsoever. I know that LISA is trying to chase the bag, but this is just straight-up take all, give nothing. Uninteresting, no build-up and a song that leads you nowhere; even the music video was straight-up slop too.

57. Borderline – Ely Oaks/Lavinia (4.5/10)

Ely continues the same formula that made 'Running Around' and is even more forgettable, with him proving that he's just like the other low-quality DJs mixing vocals.

52. Gnarly – KATSEYE (1.5/10)

This sounds like something a cringe but pretty TikTok girl would dance to in the late 2010s who does nothing but dance. The vocals on this use an over-exaggerated fake strong accent that sounds like the typical "periodddd slayyy" accent; there's no way they thought a hyperpop with cuts worse than Skibidi Phonk would appeal.

39. The Way I Love You – Jorja Smith (5/10)

Previous listen:

In one ear and out the other.

Added:

It's a sound that's like 'Little Things' but with a quick dance beat kick in, and I'm shocked she's finally gaining traction with this music; it's slightly better on the second listen but still feels like a Sonny Fedora attempt to make a summer song. Repetitive.

17. Old Phone – Ed Sheeran (4.5/10)

Ed Sheeran is just making the exact same music he made before but worse. 'Old Phone' is about Ed looking through his old phone and seeing his old memories. Ed believes they should be left in the past. The song uses a basic guitar and vocal melody that has a higher sound but is still a sad song; it feels too basic for me to enjoy and once again sends the album in a worse direction.

RE-ENTRIES:

99. Naive – Kooks
[I don't know this one.]

96. Riptide – Vance Joy
[I quite enjoy this.]

94. Back It Up – Josh Baker And Omar+
[Who actually cares?]

44. Espresso – Sabrina Carpenter
[Can't believe this is still charting in 2025.]

NOTEABLE CHANGES:

Songs that climbed 10 spots or more:

86. On & On – Sub Focus/Bbyclose (Up 11)
82. Don't Wake Me Up – James Hype (Up 17) [HIGHEST CLIMBER]
76. Spring Into Summer – Lizzy McAlpine (Up 12)
47. Stargazing – Myles Smith (Up 12)

Songs that fell 10 spots or more:

95. Tonight – PinkPantheress (Down 26)
77. Caramel – Sleep Token (Down 25)
75. Damocles – Sleep Token (Down 50) [HIGHEST FALLER]
65. End Of The World – Miley Cyrus (Down 21)
40. Headphones On – Addison Rae (Down 11)

BEST AND WORST:

NEW entries:

BEST – With You – Davido/Omah Lay
WORST – Gnarly – KATSEYE

Whole top 100:

BEST – Lose Control – Teddy Swims
WORST – The Days – Chrystal
