You will seldom see me post in this section of the forum but this is the only place this album fits. This is as alternative as alternative gets. If you understand what the hell is going on here good luck to you. I sure as hell don't. A trip down memory lane. I love parts of this album and can't listen to other parts. A real paradox. The teachers at my high school were horrified when a group of students - mainly girls - wanted to create a stage vesion of this for the annual school play. The parents would have needed therapy after witnessing this event.

EMF "schubert dip"
from Lynne's cd collection
UK alt rock band
debut album of five (hoping its the only one she has LOL)
well that was 'unbelievable' (excuse the pun!!)
only thing i liked on it was the debut single which was "unbelievable"
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

SOUNDGARDEN "a-sides" cd 1997
from Lynne's cd collection
i own a couple of albums but that is it
this is a compilation covering the first fifteen or so years of their career and seventeen or eighteen singles
the early material is too heavy and grungy for my liking but the latter material is quite melodic and easy to digest
always loved Chris Cornell's vocals and this just enforces that despite not liking some of the songs.
all up, a decent greatest hits package but not one i would necessarily want to return to in the near future

ADAM & THE ANTS "prince charming" cd/vinyl 1981
a revisit
New Wave/Post New Wave
their third and final album before they parted ways...
not as good as their second album but still pretty darn good
love the use of punk styled guitars and tribal drum beats to create an unusual blend of sounds.

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS "wild god" vinyl/cd 2024
a revisit
random Nick Cave selection
their eighteenth studio album
like the vast majority of their albums this gets better with each listen
ranked around #17 in my EOY list but would rank a few places higher if i was ranking those purchases today
it was a 2.3 then, now it moves in to 'love territory' at 2.4
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

PAUL & LINDA McCARTNEY "ram" cd/vinyl 1971
a revisit
it has elements of rock, blues, country, pop and a power ballad
often regarded as being the first " indie pop" album by music experts
second post-Beatles release
most fans rate this as the best album of his career but i dont
it ranks pretty high for me moreso for being kitschy or quirky as opposed to the brilliance of the songs
too many of these tracks feel unfinished or McCartney not knowing how to finish them with a proper ending,
others have great music and riffs but terrible lyrics
two songs that formed part of the sessions for this album were "oh woman, oh why" (a bluesy rocker) and the light jaunty pop of "another day", both of which are better than anything on this album but were omitted from it.
to me his first four albums had great moments but also some WTF moments, it wasnt until Band On The Run (his 5th) that his mojo really got into the groove IMO
that said, i think this album sounds fine when played as an entire piece but the songs dont hold up for the most part as individual tracks much like "the white album" and the lengthy medley on "abbey road"
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
favourite is a little country styled ditty about life in the country, the place he loved best:

LEADER CHEETAH "the sunspot letters" cd,2009.
a revisit
Aussie band
debut set of only two releases
think indi-pop/rock, americana, jingle-jangle psychedelic pop here like My Morning Jacket and Band Of Horses
has a bit of a Neil Young/Crazy Horse vibe in places too, that probably the whiney, nasally high pitched vocal delivery
nothing great on here, but also nothing so bad i do not like neither...
was nice to randomly pick this one out again but Lynne didnt like it because of the NY type vocals LOL
album would rank 2.0-2.1 as a guess which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

MARILYN MANSON "mechanical animals" cd, 1998
a revisit
a random pick
their third of twelve albums, i own four or five
had to put it in alternative because theres industrial, gothic, glam and electronic rock on it
still a very good album after all these years which i found slightly surprising (but welcomed nonetheless)
album would rank somewhere around 2.2 or 2.3 as a guess which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

HOODOO GURUS "stoneage romeos" cd/vinyl 1984
a revisit
Aussie alt-rock/garage rock/psych-rock/glam rock band
which is why it is in alternative
their debut of ten of which i own all ten
ene of Australia's best kept secrets but i still wish they got the recognition they truly deserved
phenomenal live band even to this day, full of energy and spark to keep an audience engaged
this is my favourite album of theirs
i will post a slower track from the album and my favourite so you get an idea what theyre about in case you are curious
even after all these years and album ranks 2.5 for me which means...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
