EDGAR FROESE - Aqua
His solo debut, recorded shortly after Tangerine Dream's debut, Phaedra. It was a money making exercise, I believe. To help fund TD's next album. You have to listen with headphones because it's immersive - he used the binaural recording technique. I kinda like it - not sure I'm entirely convinced by the watery sounds which I understand were from his kitchen sink, but sonically, the album is interesting. Not entirely sure either, what planes overhead have to do with things aquatic, but again, an interesting aural experience! I was given a bunch of CD's by someone who moved and had transferred all their CD's to digital. Happy to have them!

HUGO LARGO "drum" vinyl 1987
from Lynne's vinyl collection
from the U.S of A
decided to play it because
1) i had never heard of them
2) i liked the cover art
3) produced by Mickael Stipe
4) on Brian Eno's record label
so,
ambient wishy washy dreary vocals/music
(yes i did mean dreary and not dreamy)
instruments are drums, violin and 2 bass guitars (yup, 2 bass guitars)
well that was absolutely God awful and im glad Lynne said she liked the album cover and thats why she purchased it from a discount bin because i would have done the same

A very interesting if rather short documentary about Brian Eno's 'Apollo' album.

No sweat. Probably my favourite 'ambient' album. I don't have that many but this one is a firm favourite. The subject matter - the Apollo program - is also something I have always been interested in since I was a kid. So this album is the intersection of my interests in the space program and experimental music.
As a sidenote; the five engines on the saturn 5 rockets together used up 20 TONS of fuel per SECOND!! Mind boggling!

i own and love "rosetta" by Vangelis, it serves the subject matter perfectly IMO
how does "apollo" rate against "rosetta" in your opinion Jerome?

I think you would prefer Rosetta to Apollo but for me Apollo is the go-to ambient album. It's very abstract in parts but also gives a nod to country and western music as well. Quite a mixed bag. I happen to believe Apollo is Eno's finest moment. He has also released albums that I just cannot listen to - Nerve Net, The Shutov Assembly etc. etc.
My favourites of his are Apollo, Music for Films, On Land, Music for Airports, Another Green World & The Plateaux of Mirror.
There is also an extended version of Apollo but I have not taken the time to listen to it yet. Maybe this weekend as I have nothing planned for it for once.

Finally got around to listening to the extended version of 'Apollo - Atmospheres and Soundtracks'. Not bad, but not as good as the original album. Favourite piece was 'Under the Moon'. Justin Hurwitz's music for the movie 'First Man' was definitely better than the 'extended version' but you have to remember that they were each created 'in their own time'. The only true constant in life is continuous change. And taxes...
