Listened to Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow for the first time the other day. I think I'll need to listen again, possibly when not distracted, although when that will ever be who knows??!! Seems as though we live in world where we're expected to be available to all and sundry 24/7 and heaven forbid you should switch off your phone. Really not cool at all. Anyway - it reminded me a bit of Mike Oldfield's The Songs of Distant Earth, probably because of the concept. At this stage, I'd choose to listen to latter over the former.
I have also just listened to The Dark Side of the Moon - uninterrupted (miraculously) - and it's so interesting that it just doesn't seem to date - the album's 50th anniversary coming up in March. Unbelievable. I got my first copy at a specific time in my life when I was wrestling with all sorts of ideas and philosophies, and spent many a long hour with ears between speakers. Wonderful stuff. Not posting links to either as that is not how one should hear them, IMHO. I'm so glad I got to experience getting completely lost in LP's. Nothing like a good concept album.

Ditto on the Dark Side album. Never tire of it. An amazing piece of work for it's time. I actually think that WYWH is better but most will disagree with me. Those people will be sterilised...
As for the phone thing. I switch it on in the morning and the evening for a couple of minutes to check for messages or missed calls. The rest of the time it stays off. Makes life a lot simpler. And I don't have to constantly charge the bloody thing either.

![]() THE ZOMBIES "odessey & oracle" cd, 1968 a revisit. their second and released just as the band was capitulating... often regarded to as a masterpiece in the league of Sgt Peppers and Pet Sounds by the experts... unlike those two, this one failed to chart anywhere and the single "time of the season" was only a hit in South Africa (#2), America and Canada (#1)... it is psychedelic, pop, chamber pop and baroque... I LOVE THIS ALBUM favourite on this occasion is the best known song:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014. |
