England lose out to Italy on penalties in the Euro. I feel so sorry for the UK - they came so close but Italy was the better team at the end of the day. A lot of people have commented on the fact that the guy who missed the deciding penalty is only 19 years of age but the goallkeeper he was facing is only 22! The game wasn't great but the penalty shootout was nail-biting. Could have gone either way. Congrats to the Azzurri.

i feel for the 19yo being put under that pressure in the final kick...
should have been a more senior player taking the penalties, not 'junior' players IMO...

also not impressed with the racist comments aimed at him on social media, at the end of the day, its only a game.

but yes, i woke up at around half time and watched it, like you said, it wasnt a great game until the penalties.

The best thing I did was walk away from social media. It's a minefield. A vortex that just sucks you in and you spend a lot of time commenting on rubbish and wasting your time. This forum is the only thing I spend any time on these days. I can just imagine the comments being hurled at some of the English players. Jeez they get one game away from the dream and their 'supporters' turn on them. With friends like that who needs enemies. And some of the behaviour in and around the stadium was disgusting. Of course this is not true of all English fans but it's amazing how much damage a small group can do. I was in Amsterdam for Euro 2000 and the Dutch cops took no crap. They just bundled the hooligans into vans and carted them off. No questions asked, no 'human' rights bullsh*t - just decisive action.

A work colleague., who absolutely hates football with a passion, made a funny remark once. He said the minute a footballer gets 'injured', the first two people on the pitch are his lawyer and his hairdresser. LOL!

All hell has broken loose in South Africa. Zuma and his cronies have been stealing from the state coffers for years, effectively putting South Africa on the same level as Haiti. Another once-prosperous African nation and economic powerhouse reduced to rubble by mismanagement and corruption. Africa is incapable of managing itself. Pure and simple. Ctrl-Alt-Del.

I hate to think this might happen and maybe I am being a bit too pessimistic but the way things are at the moment I can see civil war on the horizon.

Another stark warning from Mother Nature!

LOL, i have Death Valley as one of the weather locaitons on my phone simply because of the heat they get there in the Northern Summer...

there have been hotter temps recorded in the world, Sudan, Ethiopia and Australia spring to mind but i think there are certain regulations for the thermometer position/locations that is required to be acknowledged nowadays....

on the Civil War comment....
i did post somewhere a while ago about current wars/conflicts around the world...
just about every African Nation is either involved in a Civil War, a Regional War or a factional war as i type,
an exremely volitile Continent for sure...

Africa is a basket case. Many moons ago I drove to Hogsback from Cape Town. The quickest way there is to cut through an independent homeland called the Ciskei which is surrounded by South Africa. The minute you leave SA and cross the border the road deteriorates. But the most shocking thing is that for 80 kilometers, on both the right and left hand side of the road as far as you can see there is nothing but tree stumps. ALL the trees have been cut down to use or sell as firewood. There is nothing left except a barren landscape. That sums up Africa for you. Use up everything you can and never plant anything or take care of anything. A few years ago I drove my Mom to the Cedarberg Mountains, once a beautiful valley with an amazing forest. The forest is no more. Some local politician decided that the trees were not native to South Africa and so had to be cut down. Of course he sold all the wood and pocketed the proceeds. No surprise there. Farms that have been taken over from white farmers have been completely destroyed because of lack of crop rotation. So the soil is now totally infertile and they cannot grow anything anymore. Another brilliant move! And that is how the whole continent operates. Take everything - create nothing. And then when there is nothing left and everyone is starving blame it all on the white man. Same old story no matter what African country you go to.

And of course there is never any money for food but always money for arms and ammunition.

speaking of....

i always loved these lyrics by Paul Weller:

Everybody doing it
Doing it real good
Everybody knowing it
Like they know they should
Shiny sabres rattling
Long into the night
And everybody saying it
Saying what they like

There are words there to inspire you
There are words there to be heard
Maybe none of them will fire you
But none the less they will make you listen by force

Everybody shouting it
From every place on high
Everybody loving it
Loving what they find
There's blood upon each handshake
Lies upon each word
And everybody killing it
Killing off what's good

There are holes in the divisions
Between the haves and who have nots
There's a bomb for every city
Now they don't know where to stop
And they say there's no provisions
There's not enough to go round
But when it comes to the gun there's a bullet for everyone
When it comes to the gun there's a bullet for everyone
