NEW ALBUM: Paul McCartney "mccartney III"
#1
[Image: 220px-McCartney_III_Album_Cover.jpg]

Spotify listen:

his thirty eighth album post-Beatles (inclusive of Wings, solo, experimental electronic, opera and classical albums)
as Macca says, it was recorded whilst in 'rockdown'...
i always look forward to a new Paul McCartney album as theyre as predictable as they are unpredictable.
the stock standard ballads and folky acoustic types are here as are the two or three obligatory rock songs along with one or two not quite mccartney sounding tracks.
theres always the 'oh that could be a Wings song" or "that would fit on such-and-such Beatles album" comparrisons by me...
on with the album,
vocally his voice is pretty well shot compared to what it used to be but he still manages to hold a tune, that said, he does struggle when he tries to sing in his falsetto.
the melodies are just fine, the lyrics are generally what i would expect from Paul.
theres a few cringeworthy tmoments and he isnt going to win over any new fans.

to sum up the album i would say:
think of a hot chocolate on a winters night,
sometimes the night isnt cold enough for hot chocolate,
other times the chocolate is too sweet but either way.....
it is still comforting to have that hot chocolate on a winters night.

would have and could have been at home on McCartney/Ram IMO
opening track and this mostly instrumental is best by far.

album debuts at #1 in the UK, his first studio album since 1989's Flowers In The Dirt to reach #1
and to be honest i thought he would struggle to outsell Taylor Swift's "evermore" and the reissue of Eminem's re-booted "music to be murdered by-side B" albums.

its interesting looking at the charts and the way sales go for McCartney,
he is #1 on the physical and vinyl charts but only #64 on the Streaming charts, seems his fans are still traditionalists and goes to show that any decent/well established artist can beat the 'streaming generation' on their given day.
can probably assume most sales were online orders with the current UK lockdown.

album has also debuted at #1 in Germany, Scotland and Netherlands this week, cant wait to see where it enters the charts elsewhere as theyre announced over the next few days.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

#6 here in Australia.

#2 in the US with 107,000 sales, 104,000 were actual physical sales (cd/vinyl)

borderline for me and that was probably more out of respect for him than the music...
was pretty sad when Ringo's new single is better than anything on here LOL...

loved that comment at the end of your post mate.

BTW:
ordered the album when it was released
still hadnt been sent as of earlier today so i cancelled the order
will pick it up at some point when its on discount

This album is worth the wait ! Yes there are some songs that are Beatlistic and Paul hasn't disappointed me on III ! I think some of the III album could be melded on I. His McCartney II album is unmemorable to me. Time for another listen.( I think Coming Up is on it ?)

I am having fun playing that fairly simple one note intro on the high strings for Long Tailed Winter Bird ! Yes his voice is noticeably deteriorating but he is 78 years old ! I have to give him full praise for once again playing all the instruments except for minor stints from Rusty Anderson and Abe Laboriel Jr..

Interesting factoid, during a Jimmy Fallon interview, Fallon asked him why he was so good at song writing, Paul remarked because I'm a genius ! ha ha I couldn't agree more ! One thing about McCartney and crew they always had fresh songs that don't sound the same ! Genius indeed.

I am lucky and privileged to have The Beatles solo or in the band in my life !
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!
