thought i might start a thread and see where it leads us (if it does at all!)....

post pictures of your favourite works of art,
by art i mean sculptures, paintings, sketches etc
also,
add a description or post a link to its description for others to reference:

okay i will start it off:


im a huge fan of The Impressionist painters and their works of art but i thought i would this post one: The Lady Of Shalott by John Waterhouse,
its not an Impressionist painting as you can see but a copy is hanging on the wall in my music library, its my favourite painting of all time, not sure what attracted me to it around 1984, think it might be the expression on her face which could mean a thousand things depending on what your mood is.
Paul Weller later wrote a song (Wings Of Speed in 1995) based upon the painting.

yeah, its in the Tate Gallery if you ever cross the Irish Sea.
well, it was in the Tate when i saw it, i assume its still there???

I have an original painting in my home studio that looks like 3 characters from an oriental alphabet from a distance but is actually three musicians playing in a band. Must post a pic when I get the chance.

Ooooo - nice thread. Might get a bit carried away ... this one because it was selected for me by my father - just a poster print that he blockmounted for my room what seems like a million years ago. The print is long gone but the memory remains. It's Ville-d'Avray (1865) by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. I took a few mental strolls in that landscape.

Rooms by the Sea (1951) - Edward Hopper 

While nowhere near the same thing - my rooms by the sea on the right which might explain why I like Hopper's painting so much. It captures the exact feeling.

And another of his, Lighthouse at Two Lights (1929). He knew a thing or two about light and atmosphere.
