What Are You Listening To?

ELVIS PRESLEY  "girl happy" (OST)  cd/vinyl, 1965

one of his weakest soundtracks and the movie...well, that is pretty darn bad!
but his co-stars were always good eye candy, not drop dead gorgeous but they had a 'cute girl next door' look about them which made them sexy to me.
that said though he still got paid USD $1M for his role and the soundtrack still sold around a million copies worldwide.
probably like half the album, can take or leave the remainder.
and thats all that needs saying.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

one track i genuinely love on here and its a little gem!

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

ELVIS PRESLEY  "harum scarum" cd/vinyl 1965.

from his nineteenth movie.
for some reason it was re-titled "harum holiday" in the uK and Europe???
made a whopping USD $4M at the box-office, so a huge profitable movie at the time and Presley took home his usual USD$1M fee for his appearance, making him still the highest paid actor in Hollywood.
album reached top 10 Stateside and #11 in the UK.
movie based on the old 1930's Rudolph Valentino flick "the Sheik".
this is the sort of movie and soundtrack that really does deserve its bad rap, both are abysmal IMO.
song titles like "shake that tamborine", "desert serenade", "go east young man" sum it up perfectly.
the only redeeming feature about the movie is the on screen presence of the cute Mary Ann Mobley IMO.

have to post a track so here goes:

ELVIS PRESLEY "G.I.Blues" (OST) cd, 1960

his fifth movie, first one post Army conscription.
a good solid movie not only by Presley standards but by the standards of the day.
album is one of his best soundtrack albums also.
contains a group of songs that actually could maintain a life outside the movie.
album was a multi-million seller reaching #1 just about everywhere and rightfully so IMO.
two singles off the album, the title track and the traditional German folk ballad "wooden heart" in which
Presley sang in both English and German, both were major hits reaching the top two chart spots in most countries.
again, another cutie in support role, Juliet Prowse who was often described as having "the best legs since Betty Grable"
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

favourite is the song from the finale, love the choreography and video sequencing also:

ELVIS PRESLEY  "blue Hawaii" (OST), vinyl/cd  1961.

soundtrack to his eighth movie.
his biggest selling soundtrack and most successful movie also.
from there it was all downhill as Tom Parker and Hollywood saw an opportunity to exploit his post-army success.
at least four genuine Presley classics on this soundtrack, the majority of the rest could hold their own outside
the movie as good songs also.
a reasonably good movie and a brilliant soundtrack IMO

ELVIS PRESLEY "clambake" (OST) vinyl/cd  1967

from his twenty-fifth movie.
co-stars, Bill Bixby, Will Hutchins and Shelley Fabares.
of the twelve tracks, five are bonus tracks and if im going to be honest, theyre the best ones on here
with the exception of a cover of Eddie Arnold's "you dont know me" which is very good.
album passes because of the bonus tracks, the movie is very average, its not his worst but it is almost certainly
in the bottom third.

ELVIS PRESLEY  "king creole" (OST)  cd/vinyl 1958

soundtrack to his fourth movie.
his best movie IMO, best soundtrack also.
this album isnt just a great soundtrack it is essential 1950s rock and roll.
a classic album from the period.
there are three essential Elvis albums that i believe everybody should hear,
this is one of them, period.
one of the greatest albums ever IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

time for a little Dixieland jazz/rock fusion

and another, no not the title track or "hard headed woman" but another piece of Dixieland Rock...

ELVIS PRESLEY "double trouble" vinyl,cd  1967.

from his tweny-fourth movie.
soundtrack didnt make the top40 in the US and barely made it in the UK.
terrible movie and equally as bad soundtrack with only three tracks barely passing the grade.
hey, its gotta be bad when the guy who recorded some of the most iconic rock songs over the previous decade stoops to
record a version of Old McDonald...FFS!.

best of a bad bunch:

ELVIS PRESLEY "roustabout" vinyl,cd  1964.

his sixteenth movie.
a good allround fun movie, lighthearted and humorous.
soundtrack is pretty good but overall and as usual the songs have little life outside of it.
nothing really bad on the album but equally nothing great neither.
his last soindtrack to hit #1 on the Billboard charts, a #2 hit in Australia also.
best thing is his cover of The Coasters' novelty song Little Egypt
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

ELVIS PRESLEY "paradise, Hawaiian style" cassette/cd  1966

from his twenty-first movie.
tried to recreate the whole Blue Hawaii success but failed miserably.
the movie was very average but there were a few good songs on the soundtrack.
album made the top20 in his homeland and top10 in UK/AU.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

ELVIS PRESLEY  "kissin' cousins" vinyl/cd 1964 (OST)

soundtrack to his fourteenth movie,
was actually an enjoyable Presley movie with Elvis playing the parts of two people.
lots of great songs on here, especially the ballads/love songs.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

one of the ballads (BTW, that's Presley's natural hair colour in the clip)
