My first and enduring impression of BB King. Mention his name and this is where I go (a bit late to the party Blush ) ... Royal Jam ...

A total one-off made primarily by two engineers who had free access to a state-of-the-art recording studio by virtue of working there, and the fact that it was considered ‘training’, and who took full advantage of that opportunity - thankfully. I love this album – picked it up in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, what feels like a hundred years ago.

“Spiral” - which isn't really representative of the whole - the only track with a male vocal ...

I’ve been hoping for some time Brittany Howard and Alabam Shakes would give us a Tiny Desk concert and they finally have.

STRAWBS - Dragonfly

Very early Strawbs and a lot more folk rock than prog at this stage. Interested to note that Tony Visconti produced this album - and plays recorder on it too! May not have been his shining moment, the recorder that is! He gets a nod nonetheless "Love and thanks to Tony Visconti for being of sound mind while producing, engineering and adding percussive effects"

Some songs sound dated but then Dave Cousins has always sounded like a sage anyway. Wakeman's on the album, but not on this track - I think it's Cousins on the keys and there's some nice cello and double bass ...

ERIC CLAPTON  "pilgrim" cd, 1998

thirteenth solo set
3.5 million sales. not bad for a dude thirty plus years into his career
two covers on here, a couple of re-workings but mainly new songs
"my fathers eyes" was the big hit, the rest of the album sticks to the same
soft-blues/blue eyed soul formula
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

favourite track:

Is it my imagination or have his vocals improved over the years?
Anyone know what kind of guitar that is?
