The Super Bowl halftime show was pathetic ! Adam Levine is not a good live performer ! His voice is weak and the only thing that got a loud ovation was when he shedded his T shirt to show his tattoo plastered torso ! Such hype for a terrible performance ! The actual game was boring also ! Gladys Knight saved the day with a good rendition of the Star Spangled Banner !

Unfortunately the 2019 episode of Super Bowl LIII was a disaster all around even though I was glad to see the Patriots win again! The Rams didn't deserve to be there as they got a free pass on a blatant penalty non call in the previous NFC final !
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

A STAR IS BORN

Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga remake of a remake...
superb original music from the Americana sounds of Cooper to the powerful pop ballads of Gaga...

4/5 from me.

I went to the cinema this evening and saw the new version/remake of Stephen King's Pet Sematary…

a pretty good movie, as good as the original but I think I preferred Jon Lithgow in the role of the old dude
much more than Fred Gwynne in the original, probably because Fred was always Herman Munster to me...

i'd score it a 7/10.

Finally feeling a bit more human after a very nasty bout of flu during which all I managed to do was binge-watch series etc, lol! Found an interesting documentary called Soundbreaking – it’s about the evolution of music production and includes interview snippets with various prominent people in the biz – George Martin featuring extensively. Quite fascinating - a tantalising and enlightening glimpse as to what goes on behind the scenes and how we've ended up with what we have! Definitely worth the viewing IMHO.

Moved on now to one called Soundtracks: Songs That Defined History now which documents a series of world events and the accompanying musical scores – the Kent State University shootings, the Vietnam War, assassination of Martin Luther King, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the moon landing, etc. Highly skewed to the USA in terms of context and setting (so far), but hey – some of these happenings and the protests or anthems that accompany them have relevance wherever you are in the world. Edwins Starr's "War" is right up there - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQHUAJTZqF0

Also watched Buena Vista Social Club ‘Adios’ which was the farewell tour/documentary about and by remaining members some time after they were initially introduced to the world by Ry Cooder – most of them were already getting on a bit in years at that point. Heartwarming and eye-opening – the strength and scope of the human spirit and the incredible power of sound. The trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc2okbnxBtI

^Not a chance. I assure you, I would seriously question the sanity of anyone who chose to inflict this on themselves!  Dodgy

My Old Mother Hubbard recipe for fighting flu - make a large pot of onion soup. Chuck in loads of garlic cloves and a huge dollop of cayenne pepper. Mix it all up and then open the bottle of scotch and make sure you have at least half the bottle while the brew is boiling. You will feel better. I promise. Jokes aside, that mix of ingredients does actually work for me. Don't know why it does - it just does. Minus the scotch of course.
