NEW AND NOTABLE: upcoming albums
#21
Well well. Steve Perry has reappeared after quite some time out! Twenty four years to be precise. He’s releasing a new album soon - Traces.  https://www.stereogum.com/2010245/steve-...ars/video/

Expectations will be high - his voice was magnificent in his day - couldn't hit a bum note.

A teaser track …

DAVID BOWIE "never let me down"

originally released in the late 1980s...

Bowie was never really happy with the final product and had talked in the year before his death of getting his band
to re-record the album the way it should have been done, obviously that never happened but his band have just
completed this one final wish...

album should be out before Christmas, looking forward to hearing the results as it really was an ordinary album by
his standards!

LOL,
I replied to J-Man's post before reading yours Ruby...

I listened to the linked song, has more of an upbeat almost Dire Straits sound than most of his solo work..
I like it a lot thanks

It's around that time of year my Pavlov's Dog albums get taken out and given their annual airing, when lo and behold, a brand new track is released! I haven't kept up with them since Pampered Menial and At the Sound of the Bell because David Surkamp was not sounding good IMHO, nor was the music, and after two such great releases, what followed just seemed blegh by comparison.

I hope that this track, which I actually like, is not the best of the album to be released next week - Prodigal Dreamer. No clips on YT which is hardly surprising, so here's a Spotify link to "Paris" .... https://open.spotify.com/album/7subKAR5gMVeFxAdeAg0Dk

The lineup will have changed considerably since way back who knows when, but this is the closest I've heard them come to all that promise. Very nice strings which can make a huge difference. The lyrics make a reference to Neverland (Peter Pan) "second to the left, went straight on til morning, I missed the way you chose to go". While I would not peg Surkamp as PP (that moniker belongs to Jeff Beck), he does appear to have found a new lease of life! Who'dathought??!

And another one - Steve Hackett's new album is due out on 25 January 2019 ...

At the Edge of Light

He's just released a taster - "Under The Eye Of The Sun" and says ...

“Under the Eye of the Sun celebrates the wonder and spirit of the amazing rock-scapes I've experienced: Monument Valley, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Uluru and Arabian desert. This picture video by Leigh Harris and Franck Avril along with the song captures the sharp contrasts of bright light and mysterious darkness through the Shamanic heartbeat of these awe-inspiring places... Enjoy!”
STEVE HACKETT, November 2018 (from the YT clip description)

Mad bass courtesy of Jonas Reingold - three drummers on the album - not sure who's where at this stage - Nick D'Virgilio, Simon Phillips, Gulli Briem - very busy this track ... hmmmm .... love the rock-scapes, the 'bones of the earth' he calls them, which is brilliant. Fascinating to see the shapes and forms carved by the elements in all our ancient places, and sometimes difficult to believe that they have not been manufactured!! The didge in the middle section is appropriate methinks ...
