Blood, Sweat & Tears - Mirror Image - 1974
this is nothing like the bands previous 6 albums
the reason is that Bobby Colomby on drums was the only original member left
I thought they burnt out after 3 albums but I love those 3
all things must pass
would not recommend this one at all
one of the few originals

they had three absolute classic singles IMO...
You Make Me So Very Happy
Spinning Wheel
And When I Die
I own nothing, I should at least get a compilation for those three songs alone!

Warren Zevon - Sentimental Hygiene - 1987
6th album
5 year layoff
reached #63 here
not that keen on it
only the title track makes it for me
very nice guest lineup (or are they featured artists)
all REM members, Mike Campbell, Bob Dylan, Flea, Don Henley, David Lindley, Jennifer Warnes, Neil Young
he had cool friends
hard to believe he's been gone 15 years
fav

I have several of his album MH but not this one...
a good solid songwriter IMO,
there was so much more to Zevon than "werewolves of London"

Beach Boys - Spirit Of America - 1975
very early material
a follow up to the previous years Endless Summer compilation
which is better than this one
but still
it's the Beach Boys
can't go wrong
unless it's Hawaii

David Bowie - Young Americans - 1975
9th album
I didn't care for the new Bowie sound at the time
remade himself once again
never cared for the Fame hit at all
only like the title track
reached #9 here and #2 UK
a live one

that's a terrible live version of Young Americans MH...
I believe he had a bad chest/throat infection at the time. thus his singing was atrocious...but like a trooper, "the show must go on"!
yup.
terrible album mate...
most of his 1970s album barely make the grade with me

KISS "music from: The Elder" cd/vinyl. 1981:
the band's nineth studio set...
a departure from their usual style...
a concept album...
a time when, to put it bluntly, it all went to crap for the band...
the majority of fans left this one alone, they wanted "rock and roll all nite" Kiss...
only album of their career to still not be certified Gold status in the US...
last album to feature Ace Frehley, first album to feature Eric Carr on drums...
I used to hate this album too, as like I wrote previously, it wasn't KISS...
album has grown on me over the last couple of decades and I love it...
some ballads, some heavy rock, some vocals almost operatic from Paul Stanley,
lots of orchestrations, a couple of instrumentals("fanfare" and "escape from the island")...
the only album by the band where I think Gene Simmons' songs are better than Paul Stanley's...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
least likeable track: escape from the island
best track: a world without heroes
tracks:
1....fanfare **
2....just a boy **
3....odyssey **
4....only you **
5....under the rose ***
6....dark light ***
7....a world without heroes ***
8....the oath ***
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAINgNyL-7w (KISS go metal on this one)
9....Mr Blackwell **
10..escape from the island **
11..I ***
3s - 5
2s - 6
1s - 0
rating: 2.4
