Shoegazing?
#1
Can anyone help me understand this genre..

I have heard Jesus and Mary Chain.. & I like their music.
But I still don't get the genre definition..

Can anyone suggest a song perfect to understand this style of music.

no, I'm so tired of the making up of new genres

Guess you'll have to add this to the list tiggi.

Supposedly "Shoegaze" got its name from how some of the bands performed - they stared at their feet while on stage. The sound is characterized by loud/soft dynamics, lots of feedback, and drone. I don't think the Jesus & Mary Chain are the quintessential band for Shoegaze. For me that goes to My Bloody Valentine. Other examples are Slowdive, Ride, and Chapterhouse.

A good song to listen to is Feed Me With Your Kiss by My Bloody Valentine.

Jon's spot on as usual.

I saw Chapterhouse in my home town before they "broke through". The club was only half full, but they were magnificent...

Also saw My Bloody Valentine supporting JAMC in London. They played at synapse-shredding volume, probably the loudest live band I've ever heard.

...and I've just remembered that I saw Ride supporting The Cure at the Crystal Palace Garden Party. They were good, too...

Yea, but were they all gazing at their shoes.
Absolute stupidity to come up with that term.
I call it like I see it.

Thanks, you guys are much more helpful than wikipedia..

I thought the term came from the listeners staring at their shoes & swaying..

thanks.

Listen to My Bloody Valentine's albums Loveless. It's pretty much considered to be THE Shoegaze album par excellence.
