KRIS DELMHORST – The Wild



I’m not familiar with Kris Delmhorst, but I am familiar with some of her husband’s work – Jeffrey Foucault. He contributes slide and backing vocals here and there on this album which is her eighth – released 22 September (bit slow off the mark!). She’s a folk singer and multi-instrumentalist but this album is exceedingly spare in the latter department, in fact, it’s that very hush and minimalism that contributes to its charm IMHO. Took a few false starts and distractions to get to listen to properly, and to absorb, and now I like what she’s done – rather a lot.
 
This is what she says about it – quote courtesy of AllMusic - "This album deals with the tide of clarity in life, the way it goes in and out of focus, the way you lose your path through the wilderness and have to find it again."
 
Simple and stripped back, especially in her use of her voice, but with enough strategically placed overlays and oomph to hold interest. Foucault’s touch is evident, careful (in the true sense of the word) and complimentary. Hmmm – nice listen.
