ELVIS PRESLEY -  "way down: in the jungle room"  cd,  2016:

some of these tracks appear on his final studio album "moody blue",
others appear on various compilations...
but this is the first time sixteen tracks, plus bonus out-takes appear all together
on one dedicated disc...
theyre the final  recording he completed prior to his death...
recordings took place, as the title suggests, in the Jungle Room at Graceland...
some pop but mostly country tinged....
album peaked at #6 on the US country charts and made the top twenty in the UK...
a good solid album with Presley showing he still had the power in his vocals on "hurt"...
only two tracks I didn't preciously own on this collection, "the last farewell" and
"blue eyes crying in the rain"...
a very good album for those who love the country/ballad side of 1970s Presley...

these were the days when artists sang live and didn't need to use autotune to sound like their recordings!
love the almost operatic tone in his vocals when he hits that note at the end of the song!

This is a very awesome album. I listened to it yesterday afternoon. Great choice of songs on that album

JIM CROCE "the jim croce collection"  cd,  2002

career spanning twenty four track disc....
contains all the singles...
i knew half a dozen of the tracks prior to purchasing it...
im glad i did, good artist...
still hard for me to go for something other than this one:

I was recently given an album by Jim & Ingrid Croce which has had alternative titles - Croce and Bombs over Puerto Rico (for some odd reason). Mine is Another Day, Another Town. Wasn't even aware that they'd made a record together! It's nice but maybe too much so. He had much more edge and really came into his own as a solo artist. I'm very fond of Jim Croce which I've probably mentioned a few times!

THE COSTELLO SHOW  "king of America"   cd,  1986:

continuing with my Elvis Costello listens....
Elvis' tenth studio set and my favourite of his...
also contains my favourite track of his, "indoor fireworks"...
usually I would put Elvis in alternative but "easy listening" is apt here...
some country, folk, bluegrass, jazzy blues and a couple of uptempo tracks
in the usual Costello sound....
T-Bone Burnett plays on, and co produced the album with Costello...
an excellent cover on here, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood ...
a brilliant album, worth hearing if youre a fan and if youre not a fan,
its worth it for the intelligent lyrics if nothing else...

For lack of inspiration, resorted to pulling any old thing out of the record cabinet, aaaand – The George Benson Collection it was. Could’ve been worse (some dubious releases lurking in there) … and fortuitously, it turned out to be good music to cook to!

That Jazz (and Big Band) are categorized with Muzak wounds my heart (with a monotonous languor).  Good heavens, if the Blues are recognized in M-D.com's estimable Rock thread (and rightfully so), then so should the foundation-stone of Jazz.  Perhaps this is merely a reflection of local popularity rather than taxonomically correct thread classification.  Need convincing, how about a bit of essential musical history; picture it:  Newport, nineteen sixty-five...

GEORGE FORMBY  "the world of George Formby"  vinyl.  1976.

twelve track compilation....
Formby, UK actor, comedian, song and dance man  from the 30s-50s...
all tracks are novelty songs so I wasn't really sure where to put this one??...
songs in the style of Hermans Hermits as Formby released the original version of
"leaning on the lamp post" back in the late 1930s...
that one is on here but unfortunately his original version of "subterranean homesick blues"
is not on here...
not a bad album but it does get a bit tedious after a while and hey, gotta give credit where credit is
due, without him there would probably have been no Lonnie Donegan and in return no Beatles!

SANTANA "supernatural"  cd,  1999:
what to say????
firstly, it is good background music, much the same as George Benson is for me...
secondly, every track has a featured artist, this is the fault of the album IMO,
it is not cohesive with too many sounds/styles, I mean we go from the soul of Wyclef Jean and on through
the rap of Lauren Hill/Cee Lo Green, on to Clapton and across the street to Rob Thomas...
too many things happening IMO...
thirdly, same as the first, great background music if you want something smooth on so as not to distract
what you are doing...

soft rock/ alt-country band from Australia....
fourth album...
contestants on one of those idol type shows back in 2012 I believe...
some good soft rock on here, alt country also...
nice album...
