Oceansoul Wrote:Well I do listen to Dark Tranquility, but as far as At The Gates is concerned, I've heard the title track Slaughter of the Soul and the track Blinded by Fear, I'm not sure I would call them my cup of tea.
Granted, a couple of songs aren't much to judge a band on.
What would you recommend most from Dark Tranquility? I've heard that The Gallery is good, but have only checked out a few songs from it so far.
As for At the Gates, their first two albums are pretty different from their third and SotS, they have a more technical and black metal influenced approach. So, I'd recommend checking out a couple songs from their first two each. Here are links to the four songs,

That's good to hear.
Oceansoul Wrote:I'm currently listening to Progenie Terrestre Pura's album U.M.A. It's some sort of atmospheric space metal with electronic elements mixed in? It's actually kind of...good. There aren't that many songs on it though.
That sounds interesting I'll check it out right after I'm finished with what I'm currently listening to. The description reminds me of a band called Ixion, so here's a track from them to check out, https://ixion.bandcamp.com/track/falling-to-apathy
I'm currently listening to my favourite band; Blind Guardian with one of the epic tracks from their most recent album, called: "The Grand Parade."

MoM, a lot of Götet-bands (Gothenburg) referred recently... Have some to dive into, I notice...
How about Sabaton, I've heard a lot of them but never aproached them really... This one, though, I like

The Gallery is a good album to try, I also like Haven.

Ok, thanks. I'll try to give At The Gates a second chance.

Ah, I like Blind Guardian. I wanted to go see them live in September, but I didn't have time to do so. adface:

That Sabaton track was pretty decent. The guitar solo and flute parts were particularly good. Thanks MFS.

I'll give those a try then.

I'm glad you liked it. There's also this other band called Midnight Odyssey which plays a similar style. They're definitely worth checking out if you don't already know them. Here are a couple of my favourites from them.

Ah, yeah, that is too bad, especially if you're a big fan of their Imaginations from the Other Side album, since I'm pretty sure they were playing it in full on their most recent tours. Though, I've still yet to see them live too, it's definitely on my bucketlist to see them eventually. So, what are your favourite albums and songs of theirs? My favourite albums are Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations, and Nightfall, though I love every album from their third to their most recent.
I'm currently listening to one of my favourite melodic black metal bands; Windir, with their song "Saknet."

I've heard a couple of songs by this band, their music is intense. An interesting band.

Yeah, I apparently have the worst luck when it comes to getting to see bands and artists I want to see live haha. Hopefully, I will be able to someday.
I like Nightfall! It's a fun album.

Were the two songs from his debut album or Shards of Silver Fade? I prefer SoSF. It's more keyboard/effects driven and has a better atmosphere for it. Check out those two tracks which I posted earlier if you haven't already.

I love all of the song tracks on NiMe, though while I appreciate the effort, I don't care for most of the spoken word parts or interludes. I wish I had bought their A Travelers Guide to Space and Time boxset with NiMe having all the interludes removed and new cool album artwork.
Anyways, are you familiar with any of their other albums? Since you like NiMe I'd recommend either working forwards from there with: A Night at the Opera, which is epic and grand with loads of synths and vocal harmonies, or work backwards with: Imaginations from the Other Side, which is a more straight forward but still varied power metal album. So ANatO is more like "Noldor (Dead Winter Reigns)" or "Thorn" from NiMe, whereas IftOS is more like "Into the Storm" and "The Curse of Feanor." Though both IftOS and ANatO have moments like each other with ANatO's hard hitting "Punishment Divine," and IftOS more varied "And the Story Ends" and "Mordred's Song."
I'm currently listening to Vargstenen by Manegarm, one of my favourite folk/black metal bands.

I've listened mainly to Nightfall and At The Edge Of Time. I'll check out A Night At The Opera, it sounds like something I would enjoy, and Imaginations From The Other Side.

At the Edge of Time is great. It was their most recent release when I became a fan of them and remains a favourite of mine. The bookending tracks on it are particularly awesome.
As for ANatO, while it's epic and varied like those two tracks I named from NiMe, it mostly isn't as somber as those NiMe tracks except parts of Age of False Innocence, maybe. If you like ANatO you should try Beyond the Red Mirror next, which is like ANatO plus AtEoT. BtRM has a weak opener and weak ballad in "Miracle Machine," but all the other tracks are golden to me, though things start to get going really well after the second track.
As for IftOS, it's a decent bit more varied than those NiMe tracks, actually, but it's easily in the realm of normal power metal whereas ANatO is really epic. If you like it, try Somewhere Far Beyond next, which is less varied, more standard power metal, but the quality is still very high and it's still really epic like most power metal.
A Twist in the Myth is also worth checking out. It keeps that happy, folksy, epic layered harmonies, and kind of prog rock like atmosphere and general epicness of ANatO, but fits it into smaller, more straightforward and fun songs. The only detractor is that the production makes some things have an odd tone to them, but it isn't too noticable too much of the time.

I'm listening to "Tetravirulence" by Mitochondrion, one of the most intense extreme metal bands I know. Two years ago I never would have thought such an extreme band could come from my country, Canada. I also like their sister band Auroch, which released their best album earlier this year with Mute Books.
