What Are You Listening To?

I'm not much of a fan of Guns N' Roses, but I like this song.

That's my favourite GNR track too, though I also like a few others from their debut album.

I also happened to buy Skyforger on CD late last month, but have yet to listen to it. I've heard that it's one of their better later albums, so I've put it higher on my list of albums to listen through.

I'm currently listening to "Stand Ablaze" by In Flames, from my favourite output of theirs: the Subterranean EP. It has a lot more black metal in its sound like other early melodeath, which I like.

Yeah, personally I'm enjoying Use Your Illusion ll.

Cool, I like Skyforger! I listen to it a lot. The lyrics can be a bit cheesy, but that doesn't bother me any. I also like Under The Red Cloud by Amorphis, which is the band's newest album release. Silent Waters is another well loved later album by some fans of the band as well.

I have a hard time getting into this band, for some reason.

I think I'll check that one out then if it retains the quality of the single track I know from it.

Yeah, I've heard that Under the Red Cloud and Silent Waters are also very good later albums from them, they're both high on my to-listen-to list. I also liked the bit I heard from Circle, so I was wondering what you think of that one?

I personally don't care for any of their later mid-2000's and onward material, but I like bits and pieces of their early stuff. My favourite as stated earlier is their EP Subterranean which is unlike anything else they've done, so I'd recommend that before anything else of theirs if you haven't already tried it. Give the song "Everdying" a try at least. I'm also curious if you could pinpoint what the barrier is for you to liking them? Are they too poppy/happy melodeath sounding? Or are the vocals a problem? Etc.

It's pretty good, IMO.

I've heard some of their stuff like Clayman which is considered one of their best by some fans of In Flames. I still couldn't get into the early stuff I've heard and the later stuff just doesn't do much for me. I don't know why since they seem to be a pretty solid melodeath band, they aren't too poppy for me or anything, and the vocals are fine. I guess I don't connect with the band very well. I will check out Everdying.

If popiness isn't an issue, also give Subterranean's title track a try. Biosphere is also worth checking out, honestly I think the whole EP is worth trying, but at least give Everdying and Biosphere a try.

Alright, I'll do that and see if I like it.

I was wondering if you like any of the other two Gothenburg melodeath bands? I haven't delved much into Dark Tranquility, but I really like At the Gates first two albums and was wondering what you thought of them?

Well I do listen to Dark Tranquility, but as far as At The Gates is concerned, I've heard the title track Slaughter of the Soul and the track Blinded by Fear, I'm not sure I would call them my cup of tea.

Granted, a couple of songs isn't much to judge a band on.

I listened to the whole EP and I liked it more than I thought I would.

I'm currently listening to Progenie Terrestre Pura's album U.M.A. It's some sort of atmospheric space metal with electronic elements mixed in? It's actually kind of...good. There aren't that many songs on it though.
