I have that one on vinyl, have Labour Of Love on cassette, a compilation on cd and probably twenty of their singles on vinyl also....

Signing Off is a very good album IMO and im not really a fan of reggae...
when I played their singles in that singles thread a couple of years ago, very few of their singles come close to me liking them,
their pop sound is so old hat now,
that said though, I thought the Red Red Wine cover was a still a good one as was their covers of I Got You Babe (with Chrissie Hynde) and Many Rivers To Cross.

as for reggae Jerome, I know you like it...
I have some Desmond Dekker, a Marley compilation and from memory a Peter Tosh album on vinyl somewhere...

never got the hoopla over this
or Brian Wilson either
supposed to be a genius
most lyrics here are terrible
some of the music saves it
and the guy doesn't have a great voice
the harmonies made the Beach Boys for me
Brian does his own harmonies here
never got a follow up after this

the guy is probably one of the most overrated singer/songwriters in the history or popular music IMO.
and like you said, its the BB harmonies that made their songs so good....
I still cant see where McCartney/Lennon felt so threatened by them back in '66

^^ I have Brian Wilson's "Imagination" album, which I think was his second solo album, and a better album than the self-titled.

As for Brian Wilson being over-rated... No. Just... no.

That's not to say everything he did was great, but someone who wrote at least a couple of dozen songs that deserve to be immortalised is allowed a few turkeys occasionally. In fact I think the SMiLE album qualifies him as a genius even if he had never produced anything else.

Whenever any kind of Prog top 10 or top 50 or top 100 albums list comes out, Close to the Edge is nearly always at or near the top, number one more often than not.

It's easy to see why. There are other prog albums I like better, other Yes albums even, but that one more or less defined a certain period in prog rock.
