KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZZARD "oddments" cd, 2014

career stats:
studio albums..........8

this album...........no chart action

fourth studio set from this psychedelic rock band from Australia...
they've released eight albums in the last five years...pretty prolific...
this one takes on a bit of a jazz cum blues, cum punk style...
the psychedelia is still there, its just a fusion with the other styles above...
bit hard to hear the vocals on some tracks because theyre either mixed in the background
or have effects added to get the psychedelic feel happening...
I also feel the album has to be listened to in one sitting as the songs flow that way...
all up, a pretty good album IMO

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

SUPERGRASS "diamond hoo ha" cd, 2008

career stats:
studio albums..................6
singles..........................26

this album........................#19 UK...#78 AU
singles:
"diamond hoo ha man".....no chart action
"bad blood"......................#73 UK
"rebel in you"..................no chart action

sixth and final album for Supergrass...
I own five of the six....
album cover sums it up for me....
polished, slick and definitely not Supergrass should be...
looks like a cover Pulp would use...
synths are not the main instrument of choice here but they are more prominent
than the other albums I own...
the songs lack the old feel of the band also, very little Britpop...
yes, I know bands are supposed to progress as they move foreward, otherwise theyd
be stuck in a rut of the same sounds year in, year out...
but this is not the Supergrass sound I like...

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZZARD "float along: fill your lungs" cd, 2013

career stats:
studio albums..........8

this album...........no chart action

third album from this Australian psychedelic rock band....
if youre observant youd have noticed the cover art is the same as the album
I posted back up the page a little bit....
its not really, but neither album can be purchased as single items anymore, they have
to be bought as a 'twin cd set'....
thus, the top triangle on the cover is the original cover to "oddments", the lower
triangle picture is for this album....
anyway psych rock...
lyrics are indecipherable in a couple of songs....thank God for the lyric sheet included!....
so, album starts off with a sixteen minute epic track of 'sonics sounds',...
sounds more like some of the stranger Sonic Youth material, or even the sonic abysmal
live set "arc" from Neil Young...
the rest of the tracks are between two and a half and three and a half minutes, which is cool...
my favourite track has a bit of a feel like "white stripes/jack white meets oasis" IMO...
some good stuff on this one, its in line with the other two albums of theirs I own and thus,
youll either like or dislike what they do, theres no inbetween.

I see I posted this back in 2012
after almost 5 years it came up for another spin
CH pushed this on me
it was a good push
love the Gabriel track of Screaming Jets

this one really caught my ear this time

darn it, no clip for it

it was Golden Lions

Reply
yes, finally, the album is "growing on you"...its one of those "bubbling just under the surface" classics IMO, it takes a while, but them..bam, you get it.
I wonder if Jerome has ever heard the album?

I found the video for you mate:

I found that one
I had posted it before
but I wanted to find Golden Lions

Oooops, sorry!,
I thought you meant the single...
I found probably three quarters of the album on YT, but typical and typically, not the one that is required.

DAVID BOWIE "[Image: 15px-BlackStar.PNG]" aka "blackstar" cd, 2016

career stats:
studio albums..................27
singles...........................121

this album.........................#1 UK.....#1 AU...#1 US...#1 CAN
singles:
"blackstar"..............................#61 UK...............#78 US
"lazerus".................................#45 UK...#78 AU...40 US
"i cant give everything away"...#141 UK

twenty seventh and final studio album from Mr.Bowie...
released just day prior to his death...
purchased by me the day he died, my cd store mate Tem told me he died as I was
heading to the checkout with the cd....
when I posted it as a new release on the forum I hated it, but I bought it anyway
because his albums grow on me, classic example, when I posted his previous one,
I hated that also but over a period of a year or so going back and listening to it on Spotify
I got to like it, its one of my faves from him now, which is why I bought this one...
anyway...
the music had an almost avant-garde feel to it combined with jazz music for the most part.
a couple of tracks you could say were/are very Bowie-esque of the 1990s also...
I still hate the title track, almost ten minutes long, would have made two good shorter
tracks IMO,
Lazerus, that track is okay but the video is absolutely brilliant, but im not rating videos, so it
doesn't count....
its a very sombre, dour album and in hindsight, which we weren't aware of when it came out,
Bowie was facing his own mortality in the only way he knew....through his music...!
a couple of tracks I love of this album, one was the third single, and the other wasn't released as
a single...
e does mention the "F" word on a few occasions in one song, unusual for him, but I get it now.
lyrically, most of the album is basically telling us what is about to happen, but we all missed the meanings
before he died...
all up, not a bad album, a couple of great tracks IMO, a couple of lousy ones and a couple of ok tracks which IMO,
is part and parcel of just about every Bowie album...
im pretty sure that with his death, this album will feature at the top or near the top of just about every end of year
"best of" list for 2016, its not that good, but its amazing what death does to an artist's reputation.
may you Rest In Peace DB

I see this is credited to the Waterboys
but is actually Mike Scott with some session boys
quite different for me than the bands earlier work
and not as good
a seven year absence from the scene after this album
never picked up on them after that
