Agnes Obel "citizen of glass"

Spotify listen:

this album could have been posted in classical but I chose
here because it has vocals and I associate classical with
music and not vocals...
third album from this Danish classical pianist...
lots of orchestrations on here...
could quite easily have been a beautiful classical album
without the vocals...
vocals are dreamy as they ebb and flow, lovely tone to her
voice, she could have been a cool folky with her voice...
I hear shades of Laura Marling,Enya and maybe even Kate Bush
in places on this one, I could be wrong, but that's what I hear...
its actually the perfect album to listen to, as I am, on a beautiful
sunday morning...
I wouldn't buy it but it is pleasant to listen to.
I think Ruby and Jerome may like this one.

I listened to the album CH. I think she’s quite ‘alternative’ actually – not avant garde just yet, but heading that way; all a matter of opinion though, and not crucial. She uses her voice like another instrument, it seems to me, and her music is very freely composed. I see she’s classically trained, but had rather unorthodox teaching so has slipped past the regular restrictions.

As you say – good listening - I really enjoyed the first five tracks and then got a bit tired of it being clever, if you know what I mean! Call me a pleb - I need a hook to hang onto now and then! Lol! Loved the instruments though, and it’s been very well put together. And she IS clever, no doubt about that! Might have to listen again.

I was curious about the title -
Citizen of Glass - and found this
“The title comes from the German concept of the gläserner bürger, the human or glass citizen. It’s actually a legal term about the level of privacy the individual has in a state, and in health it’s become a term about how much we know about a person’s body or biology or history – if they’re completely made of glass we know everything."

youre perectly correct Ruby, the album need the odd "hook" to break thing up or spice it up...

thanks for the info on the title also, im going to go back and revisit this album now that I know what it means, may add a new dimension/perspective to what im hearing.

Hmmm, can't say I hear much Kate Bush influence. A little bit of Enya maybe.

If the first track is typical, then I would not say

I think the vocals are necessary to give it life. The instruments sound nice, but are basically a backing; without the vocal, I think it would be too repetitive.

I like the instrumentation... Mmm those violins so I might listen to more of this album. She has a pleasant voice.

I am undecided on this one - pleasant enough to listen to but would I want to hear it again - probably not. Well produced though.
