DAN FOGELBERG "captured angel" cd, 1975

career stats:
studio albums...........16
singles.....................19

this album.................#23 US...#82 CAN

first up a shout out to Ruby for basically introducing me to Dan's music a while ago....thanks Girl!

Dan's third...
I own four now.....
playing this one I hear lots of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young in the music and the song structures...
going back for a closer listen, this isn't as simple as the CSNY material (not that theres anything wrong with simplicity)...
theres a lot going on here, musically, when you actually listen intently through the cans..
such a superb songwriter on every level and he nailed it so early in his career...
sublime sot rock/easy listening stuff that I cannot believe I never got in to earlier!

I LVE THIS ALBUM

ROD STEWART "another country" cd, 2015:

career stats:
studio albums.........29
singles.................145

this album...............#2 UK...#9 AU...#8 NZ...#20 US...#25 CAN
singles:
"love is".................no charting action
"please".................no charting action
"way back home"....no charting action

Rocket Rod's twenty-nineth studio set....
second comprised of original material since his long run of cover albums...
this one is better than the previous album 'time' because there no real rockers on it,
its full of ballads and soft rock, add the bagpipes on a couple of tracks and you have Rod Stewart!
a couple of tracks about him growing old, a couple for his kids and the rest about life in general...
good album, his best in decades IMO

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

AUSTRALIAN CRAWL "sons of beaches" cd/vinyl 1982

career stats:
studio albums..........4
singles...................17

this album................#1 AU...#29 NZ
singles:
"shut down".................................#17 AU
"daughters of the northern coast"....#76 AU
"runaway girls".............................#88 AU

Band's third, I own the first three on cd and all four on vinyl....
not as good as I remembered it to be...strange how that happens over time
with some music whilst other music grows more over time?!?!....
gone are the easy going, laid back surfie beach bum charms of the earlier two albums...
in are the more serious soft rock, serious lyrics o a band trying to be what theyre not...
"downhearted" is a re-recording from their debut album, this was or the international market
and was added to the album, loved the original version but theres something different about
this one, one that I call a 'cover'...
now as I look back on these guys, I believe they were more of a singles band than an album
band, same goes for James Reyne (the vocalist) once they split and he went solo...

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

best track: shutdown

4...shut down ***
5...king sap and the princess sag *
6...letter from Zimbabwe *

8...live now, pay later **
9...Dianne *
10.grinning bellhops **

^^ I never owned any Australian Crawl, but I liked the two singles from this album better than their earlier ones - Shut Down in particular.

they then seemed to be getting more interesting with the EP - can't recall the title - that contained "Reckless".

Then on their final album they went kind of weird.

"reckless" was probably their finest moment IMO, was on an 'ep' called "semantics"

I think they tried to be too clever and artistic on that final album...

Reyne's early solo singles weren't too bad..."motor's too fast", "fall of Rome"
