He's probably one of the most bona-fide 'white guy' bluesmen out there.

He's doing some channeling in the last half of this one that Stevie Ray would be proud of.

He's really feeling it, not like some of the frauds who play it and pretend to be feeling it, but are really just repeating what they've practiced over and over. (Clapton, grand daddy of all frauds)

im surprised,
Clapton is worshipped by other blues musicians...
the likes of BB, Buddy Guy, Stevie etc thought he was a fraud do you think they would have aligned themselves with him?

that said,,
Clapton probably does "go through the motions" nowadays, but in the 60s,70s and 80s (maybe even the 90s) he was still playing
some great stuff.

I read an interview in the one of the UK music magazines late last year....
arthritis is working its way through Clapton's hands now, he says he really struggles at times to pick up
a guitar, let alone play one.

I saw him live around that time (91 ish) also, fantastic gig...
I wasn't a fan at that time but my now ex-wife was, my opinion of Eric changed that night.

i think he is saying Clapton doesn't have "the blues" in him or that he doesn't "feel" the blues like real blues guys do
and that he simply 'goes through the motions' of playing maybe???

Maybe I should clarify my opinion of Clapton a bit.


I'm not one of those people that are going to say "Oh, Clapton, he sucks, he's a lousy guitarist.", because that's not true.

The guy can play, there's no denying that.

The opening of Layla is one of the most iconic riffs of all time.

And yes, he plays the blues, standing out there on an all-star stage, rubbing shoulders with the old dogs.

Overall, though, I've just never see (or heard) him as anything more than 'above average'.

His work seems a bit too practiced, and sterile, more mechanics than emotions.

In my book, more often than not, Clapton is simply striking a pose.

But, people obviously hear something I don't, and that's what makes music cool.

And, I will never understand the whole 'Clapton Is God' thing. Good Grief.
