What Are You Listening To?
Lily on the Beach - Tangerine Dream. It's one of those albums that sounds better every time I listen to it; interesting, and organic - almost exuberant. IMHO they struck a goood balance.

One of my favourite pieces by TD - come to think of it, it could have been the soundtrack for X-Files

Making my way through TD’s (as yet unheard by me) catalogue, in random fashion! This one chosen for the album title, Tyger, and the fact that, yet again, this is a work based on William Blake’s poems – there are a few of those around!

Not sure about the vocal tracks which are the actual writings, spoken and sung – some are more pleasing than others and might've worked better with a different vocalist, but it is what it is. From what I can gather, TD purists refer scathingly to this instrumental track as being too melodic. Such a relief not being a purist; I like it …

And here's one I have not heard before - busy listening to this this morning - like it so far. BTW the pic of the pyramids is actually the original poster included in Floyd's DSOTM. Well at least in SA anyway. Used to have it on my wall. Found it just as fascinating as the music.

Yes – I do like that, thanks. So far, The Blue Years and The Melrose Years are looking good!

I first listened to Tyranny of Beauty because of the Egyptian themed artwork - when asked about the real meaning behind the title, this was Froese’s reply …

"It's a wonderful thing to look at a beautiful face, or to watch someone moving a very attractive body or to touch a very aesthetic piece of art -- it reminds people of some immortal perfection which all of us would like to preserve for eternity. But the very well known fact is, that nothing in this strange world can be saved forever. We feel weak against this everlasting law. So what's the problem? What makes us feel so sad after realising that we can't stop things moving from perfection to dissolution? The solution could be that we stop to lie about reality and face things as they are -- which simply means applauding beauty as one attractive part of life and respecting and honouring those things which are in the process of dissolving, knowing that they enjoyed good times, watching and living among them. That includes not only humans -- it includes all parts of nature. A wise guy once said: 'A lie would have no sense unless the truth were dangerous.'"

Distinctly Flamenco sounding guitarwork on the first track – I like this album too …
