my confusion this time has to do with
why there are zero singles (other than from the new album) on the U.S. chart
yet there are old singles on the others
in the digital age how are different countries charts even distinguished?
example: if I download a Bowie song, whose chart does it show up on?
does it depend on where I reside or where I purchased it from?
I have always questioned the validity of charts

on the singles side there are only 2 Bowie's
both from the new album
which just brings up more questions about how they are compiled
on the album side
1. Blackstar
4. Best of
21. Ziggy Stardust
57. Hunky Dory
65. Platinum Collection
68. Nothing Has Changed
90. Let's Dance
134. Aladdin Sane
143. Low
151. The Next Day
Final Score
New Zealand - 11/40 = 28%
Australia - 13/50 = 26%
United Kingdom - 19/100 = 19%
United States of America - 10/200 = 5%
does Jerome read this thread?
No MH, I don't really look at the charts. It's too bloody convoluted and confusing to me. I like straight and simple.

okay
from what I can gather with digital sales and streaming is this(and I could be wrong but it makes sense to me)
when you sign up for places like iTunes and streaming sites like Spotify, they ask for you location...
I guess anything you download or listen to automatically is counted on the location you nominate as your location.
with Bowie,
I guess US residents are more inclined to purchase/stream albums as opposed to individual tracks than people in other countries.
but then that still doesn't make sense because when some artists release albums you find eight or nine tracks make the singles chart the following week...
is this because they are purchasing individual tracks off an album one at a time, and partially streaming albums????
its all too confusing for me because when I think something makes sense I think of the other side of the coin which debunks my theory???
either way, im still surprised only two Bowie tracks make the top200 singles chart this week.
the singles charts should really be renamed 'track charts' IMO because most of the songs really aren't singles in the true sense of the word.

I only really look at the charts to see what is new and try to hear something ive not heard previously...
also, im pretty big on 'chartifacts', I like to know the trivia of it.
