PULP "different class" cd, 1995

career stats:
studio albums...........7
singles....................26

this album..................#1 UK...#44 AU...#37 NZ
singles:
"common people"............#2 UK...#65 AU
"sorted for E's and wiz"....#2 UK
"mis-shape"....................#2 UK
"disco 2000"...................#7 UK...#35 AU
"something changed"......#10 UK

I thought these guys rose to popularity with the advent of the 1994 Britpop sound....
well, they did really rise to fame through the Britpop thing but they've been around making
records since 1983!....took them a decade to really get going then two more albums before they imploded...
just goes to show that fame is a bitch!...
their songs are almost morbid IMO, vey negative and depressing...Morrissey you have competition mate!
anyway a good album, was a hard call between "common people" and "disco 2000" for best track so I flipped
a coin...heads-common people, tails-disco 2000....tails one over!

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Currently listening to a Procol Harum mixtape.

When they were good they were very very good, and when they weren't, they were still interesting and kind of quirky.

im assuming you misspelled Procol Harum bob??????

I have two albums..."a salty dog" which I really like a lot, and "shine on brightly" which I just cant get in to at all.

Yes I did misspell it, embarrassingly since they are one of the most misspelled bands. In my case though it was a typo, not a case of not knowing the correct spelling.

Of the ones I have heard, I think I like "Grand Hotel" the best.

LOL, I had to check and recheck I spelt their name correct also when writing the last post, so I hear ya.

BRIGHT EYES "the people's key" cd, 2011

career stats:
studio albums..........9
singles...................15

this album................#13 US.#46 UK...#55 AU
singles:
"jejune stars"............no chart action!

Nineth and latest set from this indi/alt rock band from Nebraska......
their songs are never in the rock arena but they call them alt/indi rock...
It is hard to describe their sound but its not really rock in any form???....
it is quite mellow and dreamy for the most part, but not boring dreamy...
now, that said,
my favourite track on here actually does have an alt/indi rock sound. so basically,
what I wrote previously should probably be disregarded...LOL!
I have two other albums by them, picked all three up out of discount bins
because ive never seen them at the regular price in the stores out here....
a very good band with intelligent lyrics...
critics were mixed on this one, some loving it, others launching scathing attacks
on it, but all agreeing that the band can do better...
they could be right because one of the albums I own is better than this one, t
he other not as good IMO....

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

There was a whole bunch of bands around the turn of the millennium that had a similar sound, and who I used to confuse with one another. There was Three Doors Down, Lifehouse, The Calling, Nickelback, Seether, and a couple of others I can't think of right now. I quite liked a couple of the songs, notably that big hit by The Calling, but I got very tired of that particular sound. The singers all sounded to me as though they had just woken up after a heavy night.

There was a later song by 3DD, I think it was called Kryptonite or that was part of the title, and that wasn't too bad, and a little different.

Krryptonite was their debut single bob, its on the debut album that I own...
its by far the best thing on the album IMO.
