GENE PITNEY "the platinum collection" cd, 2006
Disc #3 of the three set series....
this disc contains sixteen tracks....
a couple on here are duets with Melba Montgomery,a country singer, but ive never heard of her, has a lovely voice though...
three or four duets with George Jones,
several tracks rerecorded in Italian for the Italian market because he was hugely successful out there and did spend a lot of time in Italy
over the years...
also included is his version of "hello mary-lou" which he wrote for Rick Nelson back in the 1950s...
this was an unnecessary disc IMO, it doesn't add anything to the preceeding discs, infact half of it is a big letdown actually...
could have done without the Italian versions of his hits, and could have done without "hello mary-lou", regardless of who wrote it,
that track belongs to Rick Nelson...
had it not been for half the album scoring love points this would have bombed greatly!

LORETTA LYNN "van lear rose" cd, 2004
career stats:
studio albums..................54
singles............................88
this album.........................#24 US...#2 US Country
Loretta's fifty-fourth studio album,aged 72.
album was produced by Jack White....
its the only studio album of her career where she wrote every track on an album....
thank God White hasn't installed too much of his style on this one...
it is mostly country as in country, but theres a rock track, a blues rock track, a spoken word track
and one that sounds like White Stripes in which White and Lynn duet together(I hate that track for its grunge sounds!)
lyrics are quite reflective with Lynn looking back on her life warts and all...
she still has the voice and that southern drawl we know her for....
sounds like she had a hoot making this one, and thankfully its a lot better than the Wanda Jackson/Jack White one from a couple of years ago...

this album...............#42 US Country...#10 CAN Country...#46 US
singles:
"it is what it is"...........no chart action
third instalment from Willie,Waylon,Kris and John....
first album was brilliant, second was very good but this one just passes for me....
the guys sound jaded like theyre going through the motions and the initial spark simply isn't there...
in fact the best track is a Willie solo effort, its up there with his best tracks IMO....
im just grateful they never went on to make a fourth album together...

I would love to see Loretta live! I imagine that the tickets aren't cheap!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

No, I won't be going to the concert. Sick hubby.
Tickets are not that high at the A. Theater Steve.
I've been there right many times. HOB is in the same area.
I like the HOB better even though I've seen legends at the A. Theater.
I saw Willie with Jamey at the HOB.
Getting back to Loretta, she can't sing as good as she used to in person
but folks still go because she is Loretta.

"capsized"............#57 CAN
"you and me".......#48 CAN....#199 UK
"break the cycle"..#41 CAN
an acoustic folky album from Canadian folky Dallas Green and Alecia Moore aka: P!nk....
the pair of them are friends and a mutual friend mentioned they sgould record something together
and the album was born from that passing comment...
lots of lovely acoustic tunes on this one...
nothing like what you'd expect from P!nk really...
this one went in and out of the charts pretty quick, I guess people thought it was a P!nk album, then heard it wasn't,
so it dropped like a lead balloon...
shame really, because its a very good album that showcases her vocal quality outside of the pop arena(I guess like Gaga with the Bennett album)
a worthy addition to any collection IMO

debut set from Aussie country singer-cum-balladeer James...

I either love or dislike the songs on here...
I love the real country tracks and a ballad, but dislike the other half...
the stuff I love was worth the price of the album IMO though...
