I agree "...complete rubbish!" about what the Beatles did; the Rolling Stones mostly stayed old-school, making music in current trends. About hip-hop--I second the opinion about using data analysis and only that to come to such a strong conclusion. "Some wankers out to make a name for themselves", is how I'd put it and it is to be sincerely hoped, soon washed away in the tide.

Yes I don't know why they coupled the Stones with The Beatles,,,shows you how much academics don't know about rock music history...two different styles of music for the most part! The Kinks and Pink Floyd revolutionised rock music also...art rock, rock opera, multi genre music of splendid creation by Pink Floyd! The Beatles steered rock in a different direction then all the rock greats followed their path!
