![]() Beautiful voice, and two beautiful songs that I know of, both on this compilation. Had no idea Roger is from Kenya. The guy is almost 80 now. His parents are English and moved to Kenya. Roger decided on medicine as a career and enrolled at the University Of Capetown. Dropped out of there to focus on a teaching degree. He then moved to England to pursue his studies. To help pay for that he started singing in local clubs and was discovered by Fontana Records around 1962. Four years later a move to Columbia Records eventually brought Roger his first top 20 UK hit in 1969 with Durham Town. The next year Roger signed a US distribution deal and his US label released New World In The Morning, which was a minor hit here. It was 1975 that brought him his biggest hit, The Last Farewell. No contest for those two love tracks on this album. Three really bad ones to go with those, one a whistler, one a bad cover of Good Morning Starshine, and the last, one where he sounds like he's trying to be Tom Jones. Roger is living well in France at this time. It's Not Unusal. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Whistle Stop Best Track - The Last Farewell 1) New World In The Morning *** - very nice clip live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkFxPh4s0C4 2) Both Sides Now ** - thought this would suck, but it didn't live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6WbX7TRc78 3) Halfway Up A Mountain ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkXy6_ZxbXk 4) Water Boy * 5) The Last Farewell *** - TOTP, the teens are confused, "you can't even dance to this" live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROK6Y7ynQww 6) I Don't Believe In If Anymore ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY-2einPmd4 7) Good Morning Starshine * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLhtvUU64xc 8) Sunrise, Sunset ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLzmI5EqE3o 9) Whistle Stop * 10) Durham Town ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9XcuN5hZwk Grade - 1.9 allmusic - 2.7

![]() As expected, nothing out there on this one. Had to go to Amazon for the cover. For those not in the know, Al Hirt was a lengendary trumpteer from New Orleans. We saw a statue of him someplace on our tour down Bourbon Street. Al had a few instrumental hits in the 60's with Java the most recognized. The man had 22 albums hit the charts during the 50's-60's. Not sure where this album fits in there but I don't hink it charted. It is a collection of songs that were performed for the negro funeral procession. It was treated as a celebration of the deceased's life after the brief mourning period. Not the type of tunes to chart. Nice dixieland swing stuff. Only one track I didn't care for. Nothing to love, but a nice change of pace for me. Also as expected, there are no clips for this album. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Pleyel's Hymn Best Track - I Shall Not Be Moved 1) Keep On The Firing Line ** 2) There's A Great Day Coming ** 3) This World Is Not My Home ** 4) I Shall Not Be Moved ** 5) Just A Closer Walk With Thee ** 6) Do Lord ** 7) Just A Little While ** 8) Lily Of The Valley ** 9) Pleyel's Hymn * 10) Oh Didn't He Ramble ** Grade - 1.9

![]() RUMER "boys dont cry" cd,2012. did this one as a new release back in early 2012, liked it so i bought it... this is Rumer's second album, her first, "seasons of my soul" was superb IMO,all tracks were originals, this one however, is a covers album, now fortunately for me i dont know the originals so this is an original album to me! i love her voice also,so mellow and relaxing IMO(karen carpenter has the same effect on me) i cant rate anything here as a 'love' score because i know they are covers...just dont want to say i love anything then go and hear the originals then turn around and look like an idiot when i revisit these tracks..nothing on here i dont like neither which gices the album an overall score of 2.0 not doing all the tracks here, but here are a couple of tracks that i really, really like... ![]() CHRIS ISAAK "the best of.." cd. "easy listening" is where you put Chris is guess??? never been a big fan of him but saw him perform live some time ago and he was very very good... so i thought i'd get a compilation of his songs... always thought he had a Roy Orbison thing happening with his voice, you know, ablility to hit and maintain high notes and having a good solid range of octaves with his vocals, strange though, because the worst track here happens to be an Orbison cover(only the lonely)!?!? sure i iether like or love most of the tracks here(5 loves and 9 likes), but the four bad ones let this album down a bit...he is pleasant enough to listen to but i wouldnt really say that i am a fan...by the way, Dani doesnt like Chris much at all...too laid back for her i guess, anyway, what do Pink Floyd fans know about real music anyway(come on Jerome, take the bait!) i do like this album, but it doesnt get anywhere near the score that a best of set should get from an artist who has been around a fair while like Isaak's has... rating: 2.0 from the album: somebody's crying http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIhFMe1jZm8 live i want you to want me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1rJYR-A2us live king without a castle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOj322QTMHk audio wicked game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Uw4V5yt1-w live blue hotel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zanYf6c-DpA video

![]() NIKKI YANOFSKY "nikki" cd,2010. Canadian jazz protege... was appearing at the Montreux Jazz Festival by aged 11, headline act there at age 14...released this by age 16, portraited Ella Fitzgerald around that time also in a bio-pic stage show, so the gal was obviously talented.. i discovered her whilst searching youtube for new artists, although im not generally a fan of the song 'over the rainbow' her version blew me away...such a pitch perfect voice at such a young age,and the feel of the vocals was that of someone way beyong her youthful age... sublime vocalist that knocks the socks off those stupid idol contestants. and although i dont like some of the songs on the album, they do get "***" or "**" simply for her vocals, a great young vocalist with the world at her feet I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: on the sunny side of the street best track: over the rainbow tracks: 1. take the 'a' train ** 2. never make it on time *** 3. i got rhythm ** 4. for another day *** 5. god bless the child ** 6. cool my heels *** 7. youll have to swing it *** 8. bienvenue dans ma vie ** 9. first lady ** 10.on the sunny side of the street * 11.grey skies ** 12.try try try *** 13.over the rainbow *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qcknyPKqvg live 3s=6 2s=6 1s=1 rating: 2.4
