THE POWER STATION  "power station" vinyl 1985

their first of two, only one i own
an "80s supergroup"
contains members of Chic, Duran Duran and Robert Palmer
eight tracks two of which are covers:
T-Rex's "get it on (bang a gong)" and Isley Brothers' "harvest for the world" both of which are good
band got their name from the NYC recording studio where it was recorded
a solid rock album which scores a decent 2.2 on this listen which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

lead off single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG  "deja vu"  cd/vinyl  1970

their second of eight as CSN but first of three as a quartet with Young
country tinged, folk-rock and rock so i put it here
got the urge to play it after MH played the trio's debut album a week or so ago
their harmonies are up there with S+G, Eagles, Beach Boys and Gibb brothers IMO
an absolute masterpiece of an album
album scores 2.8 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

^An absolute classic.

I'm listening to Alan Parsons Project's Gaudi mainly because it popped into my head today, for no apparent reason - the first track at least. Some of the album sounds a tad dated, I have to say, but there are moments that are still eminently listenable and today, Eric Woolfson's voice is appealing more so than the other vocalists. Interesting, as he was a bit of a shrinking violet behind the mic. And that said, there is nothing to fault on the opener, with John Miles ...

As so often on these releases, the final track repeats motifs from the beginning of the album and I like the instrumental closer so we have bookends here! Ian Bairnson holding forth on guitar ... shucks, so many of these great musos are gone now ... all those I have mentioned by name! Sad

and closes with Roger's "more of that jazz" which contains samples of other tracks ont he album
contains three big hits, "dont stop me now", "bicycle race" and "fat bottom girls"
just a superb album from start to finish for me

KISS  "dynasty"  cd/vinyl  1979

a revisit
its incredible to believe but between their debut in 1974 and this album they released 14 albums,
including two double live albums a double compilation and four solo albums...
anyway
this one contains the big disco hits, yes KISS doing disco (i was made for loving you/sure know something)
also on here is a brilliant cover of Rolling Stones "2000 man" sung by Ace Frehley.
he gets three of the nine tracks here, probably due to the success of his solo album which outsold the other guys efforts
Peter get his usual solitary track, Gene and Paul get five between them (they must have hated that)
anyway, a very good album with no filler IMO
album scores 2.4 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

as Ace died last week RIP, i play this as a tribute:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

ROGER DALTREY  "daltrey"  vinyl 1973

pretty sure this would be a 'revisit' but could be mistaken...
his debut solo album
ten of the twelve tracks were written by his friend Leo Sayer (with Alan Tarney)
the remaining two tracks were composed by Tarney and Adam Faith
a fairly decent album of soft rock and obviously Sayer-esque tunes so it sounds nothing like The Who
album scores 2.1 from me which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

not the album version, but a great duet between Daltrey and Sayer:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

CAPRYCON   "dark earth"  cd  2011

just found this is a pile of my cds this morning
must of been something i picked up in a "3 for $5" discount bin a few years ago
anyway, i couldnt remember exactly where or when i got this so i put it on in the car this morning
symphonic prog-metal is how i would describe it,
female vocals which border on operatic at times
found with a google search that they are Australian but no other information whatsoever, even Discogs draws a blank
must have picked it up for the cover art
album scores the lowest mark possible with 1.0 which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

only thing i could find:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.
