What Are You Listening To?

NEIL YOUNG  "on the beach" cd 1974

another re-visit of a classic album i do not play enough...
his fifth solo studio album...
masterful melodic rock that is right in the middle of his 'ditch trilogy'...
i find it so hard to rank the songs on this one as theyre all just about equally as good as eachother to me...
I LOVE THIS ONE

lets pick the one that Mr Manson (no, not Marilyn) was the inspiration for...

Well, we live in a trailer
at the edge of town
You never see us
'cause we don't come around.
We got twenty five rifles
just to keep
the population down.
But we need you now,
and that's why
I'm hangin' 'round.
So you be good to me
and I'll be good to you,
And in this land of conditions
I'm not above suspicion
I won't attack you,
but I won't back you.

Well, it's so good to be here,
asleep on your lawn.
Remember your guard dog?
Well, I'm afraid
that he's gone.
It was such a drag
to hear him
whining all night long.
Yes, that was me with the doves,
setting them free
near the factory
Where you built your computer,
love.
I hope you get the connection,
'cause I can't take
the rejection
I won't deceive you,
I just don't believe you.

Well, I'm a barrel of laughs,
with my carbine on
I keep 'em hoppin',
till my ammunition's gone.
But I'm still not happy,
I feel like
there's something wrong.
I got the revolution blues,
I see bloody fountains,
And ten million dune buggies
comin' down the mountains.
Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon
is full of famous stars,
But I hate them worse than lepers
and I'll kill them
in their cars.

a re-visit to an old favourite today...
his seventh studio set (31 in total)...
originally released on double vinyl...
love the first half (first album), it is a masterpiece IMO...
second half isnt as good but still reasonably consistent...

Trawling around some Jackson Browne favourites ... well, strictly speaking Jackson Browne and David Lindley favourites - such a fab partnership - certain songs wouldn't sound the same without Lindley ...

"The Load Out" of course - impish! Lol! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scsJZ67ssDY - my girls had to learn to sit patiently through the first 6+ minutes before their best part - in this clip it's 7.21 ish.

I particularly like some of their tracks from No Nukes ... "The Crow on the Cradle" - Graham Nash singing harmony here too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xwszx5eHlLQ and "Before the Deluge" - can't find a decent clip.

And then there's this, not JB of course, Graham Nash, but also from No Nukes and this version always seems so powerful for some reason ... that organ?? So clever and fitting - a very different opening to the studio recording ...

Was listening to Roger Water's remixed 'Amused to Death' album. Never noticed the artwork till today. On the front is a small boy sitting on a stool watching a large TV screen. On the back cover the boy is gone and is replaced by an empty wheelchair ??!!??
