CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:Neil Young & Crazy Horse at Perth-Arena tonight...

ok, before i start...i am not biased towards artist i like, if they are crap, i say theyre crap(live or album wise)...

Neil & CH were on stage for two and a half hours,
they performed several tracks from their latest offering "psychadelic pill", delved back in the annuls of their back catalogue with tracks from "ragged glory","rust never sleeps" and "everybody knows this is nowhere", also included in the set was a blistering grungy version of Buffalo Springfield's "mr.soul", about halfway through the set CH departed for a short while while Neil put on harmonica and strapped on his acoustic guitar(which was formally owned by Hank Snr) for 'heart of gold', and acoustic 'twisted road'(from psychadelic pill) and a piano solo version of 'she's a singer", also from psychadelic pill... they also pulled out "roll another number" from Tonights The Night in rememberance of departed CH member Danny Whitten(who died of drug overdose back in the day)
not once during the show did Neil's vocals faulter or waiver in the slightest and his guitar playing/solos were sublime...for a ragged garage band Crazy Horse played as a tight unit throughout, following every jam Young made up or extended as his muse took over...
Neil Young may look like an old street bum or even like death warmed up but there is no denying his ability to play guitar or sing in tune and on key...justifying his place in the rock and roll hall of fame and as a living legend of contemporary music, this guy is still as relevant as he was forty years ago and i dare any young band/artist out there to do what he does on stage now,let alone at almost seventy years of age....

"long may you run" Neil and as we all know "its better to burn out than to fade away" because "rock and roll will never die!"

rating for the show......a well deserved 8.5/10

Sounds like you had a great night Crazy. Hats off to Mr Young for still delivering the goods after the gold rush.

Neil Finn and Paul Kelly...what a concert. For a start, perfect venue..open air concert in our beautiful Kings Park.
For a start I knew a few songs of Split Enz and also of Crowded House but really had no idea on what to expect of Finn. This guy totally suprised me. His voice is so so clear and he doesnt falter one bit when holding notes. He has such a soothing sound and is so easy to listen to. Kelly - has a more husky/whiny sound, and is equally great to listen to. He too did a really great job last night.
The two of them, when they sang together was brilliant. Considering their completely different styles of voice, they harmonised so well. Im impressed by the way they complimented each other so well when singing together.
Not a single song I didnt like tonight (some were ones I cant recall ever hearing).
Asides the singing sides of things, the two were also quite entertaining with their witty remarks to each other.
LOVED THE CONCERT AND VENUE...would see them again and again if the opportunity arose.

A little late on this post! I saw Opeth and Katatonia last Tuesday night.Opeth , as some of you know, are one of my revered bands! From Sweden, they write very good original songs, some black metal growling, some hard rock, some folk, some jazzy numbers and some prog rock!...A complete band all around! I thoroughly enjoyed this concert, I probably wouldn't have even known that they were playing here if it hadn't have been for the watchful eye of one of our esteemed MD members!

Katatonia are also from Sweden. They are a black metal band but recently have switched to clean vocals and a hard rock feel. I enjoyed them also.A great time had by all!
