What are some STUDIO albums that you can truthfully say that you like all the songs o

on the subject of Frank, how do you feel about "Uncle Meat". That one tends to be the favorite of Scaruffi-ites, so is pretty easily my favorite

Apostrophe(') Wrote:As far as essential Zappa albums, Apostrophe and Overnite Sensation are a must have. Some of Zappa best and most famous songs came from those, and they're very entertaining and funny. I'd throw Joe's Garage into that mix too.

If you're more into the Jazzier/Instrumental side of Zappa(the stuff he enjoyed making the most, and some of his most genius), Hot Rats and Shut Up and Play yer Guitar are ideal.

Its very rare for me to like a whole album and of all the albums I have, quite a few qualify for 100% liking (which unfortunately shows how much music I must have listened to).... and I can't say why I like these ones, and the range displays my eclectic taste I think,

*Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85 - 92,
*Carole King - Tapestry,
*Evanescance - Fallen,
*Fall Out Boy - Folie A Deux,
*Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac,
*Fleetwood Mac - Rumours,
*Foster the People - Torches,
*Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction,
*John Mayer - Continuum,
*Kids in Glass Houses - Dirt(Special Edition),
*Lostprophets - Liberation Transmission,
*Lunasa - Lunasa,
*Massive Attack - Protection,
*Nelly Furtado -Loose,
*Nickelback - Dark Horse,
*Oumou Sangare - Oumou,
*Pink - I'm Not Dead,
*Phil Collins - No Jacket Required,
*Seether - Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces,
*Van Halen - Van Halen.
Listen to the wind blow,
Watch the sun rise,
Runnin' in the shadows.
Damn your love, Damn your lies,

The first Yes album. Not many others. In fact around 1998 I stopped buying albums entirely prefering the singles because of the price of CD's in them thar days aye.

A' - maybe you can help. Years ago I heard a complex Zappa album. Instrumental stuff with lots of Xylophones and unusual drumming (different time signatures etc.). Any idea what album this could have come from?

A marimba is probably what you're hearing. Zappa used them A LOT (as with complex drum parts). It's sounds similar and is often mistaken for a xylophone.

Zappa has a discography of around 100 (a chunk of which are compilations and posthumous) and I don't own all of them. Now given all that, I might need a bit more help. Are there any other details you remember?

The only other thing I remember is that it was a live album. The recording quality was also extremely good. This is going back many years so it's all a bit vague to me. And now that you mention it, I think it was marimbas. I don't really know any of Zappa's stuff but a friend of mine was playing this many moons ago and it caught my attention. When he mentioned it was Zappa I could not believe it. At that stage I though he was all about singing outrageous songs as oppsed to being a really good composer. COmplex drum and guitar parts with a very stop/start sort of feel to it. Sorry I cannot be more specific - that's all I can remember. The brain is on the way out.....

This is not the sort of thing I normally listen to - I tend to go for airy fairy/arty farty stuff, but this is one from a different genre (for me anyway) that really made me sit up and take note. Not enough, obviously. Must have been the abundance of chemicals in circulation at the time. It's either late 70's or early 80's.

For some reason the song Inca Roads keeps coming to mind, but it's not instrumental as there's lyrics. I'll keep looking though.

It might not be completely instrumental - just seems like it was. If you do think of anything along those lines let me know. Appreciate the input. Many thx. Busy listening to Inca Roads - sounds like this might be it?!!?? The sort of thing I remember and now that I hear the synths in the background it makes sense. The sort of thing I would go for. Regardless I like it. That guitar is just great. Merci!
