I've been playing since '61, professionally since '72 and the rest of me is tired too but I have no interest in stopping, at least until it is load out time........

I've played for about 8 or 9 months.
Haven't really kept track.
But, I'm not half bad.
My first song I learned was Stairway to Heaven :]
Well I didn't learn the solo at first, of course.
I'm still working on that.

Hey didn't you see Wayne's World? I have played off and on for as long as I can remember. Bass as well as guitar. I still like to think I'm a late blooming rock star with a day job. OK a really late blooming rock star with a day job. Maybe I'll bloom when I retire.http://www.music-discussion.com/images/s...tongue.gif

I pulled the plug at 45 to play full time, don't regret it a bit. I waited till I got the first three kids thru university. The youngest (4th) pulled a full boat scholarship so I was home free.

Have played for many years but starting to diversify into keyboards and some other wierd and wonderful instruments (balalaika and mandolin amongst others). Can't place a link on the site yet but if you do a search for Jerome Disney or auralscapes you can get an idea of some of my playing. Really like the process of composing more than playing - the idea of taking a thought or idea and then expanding it a project which involves lots of different instruments and musicians and eventually ending up with a complete body of work. Just a hobby - not a professional at all and have not earned a penny to date from any music I have created or played. Must be in the wrong hobby! And a damn expensive one too! Would really like to create music that is a blend of many styles - Floyd, Oldfield, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Wakeman, Mike Batt, Knopfler etc. etc. Don't get that much time to work on it though. Day job keeps me pretty busy.

First lesson on guitar, after bagpies, trombone, piano lessons, was in 1960 in the back of a drugstore. Chet Atkins.
Started teaching fulltime in 76-92. Lots bands, but unfortunately all west coast Canadian and kinda poppy/flaky.
Then ended in LA, part of the blues/country scene there to this day though am trapped in Canuckada at the mo.
Can answer most technical music questions, don't care about collector guitars or gear in general though I've owned a ton of it.

Two points:

- Bagpipes. As in Scottish skirt-wearing bagpipes (I'm not insinuating you wear a skirt !!) ??
- Chet Atkins. Your first guitar lesson was with CA ??

We are in the presence of greatness if that's the case...

Ohhh well Chet...go read 'My meeting with Chet' somewhere on line...endless testemonials to CA as a person.
So I did in fact run into him, and see him, a number of times, but he did no lessons, although there is a funny one on youtube that he did later.
With Chet comes Jerry Reed, Lenny Breau, and everyone else, through to modern players like Scotty Anderson and Richard Smith, who a few of us did get to jam with recently at one of his teaching clinics. Again, there is no comparison with popstars, these guys are genuine and will sit and talk and play all day long, for fans, if there is any way they can, often for travel expenses and little else.
Off topic- why in the hell is Angus Youngs name heading a guitar forum? )

In reading this thread, I think that you would be able to really get things work out by reading or watching how to learn guitar techniques and to be able to get things done on that one. In that way, you would be able to get things right. Great read to say the least!
