LOL.....I wish!
Carpenter mate,
I just make it a priority to listen to a new album everyday via spotify if I can...
it just breaks the boredom of listening to my own music day in-day out (but I do that also)
I just figure that radio only over plays what is commercially viable or what the 'men in suits' want people to listen to...
ie: the latest trends and I enjoy buying music so,
I have to go out there and find music that radio just doesn't play...
my routine is:
each week I look at the lists of new releases,
I then pick ten to listen to (most are by artists I am not familliar with, that way I might get lucky
and discover something cool), one or two may be artists I am aware of and occasionally, I pick one
from an artist I really like (Assuming theyre releasing an album)...
I then throughout the week, try to get through the list I picked, if I make it, cool, if I don't get to
listen to all ten, so be it, I don't lose sleep over it.

^^ Yeah, I guess I have found over the years that picking unfamiliar stuff at random to listen to is unsatisfying. The small number of diamonds in the dungheap would not justify the time spent, not for me. I'm not saying the rest would be all dung, but most of it is "ho hum, I've heard this all before". I've lost count of the number of times I've heard some act touted as "amazing new band", and when I hear them I think "Yes, they are new, but they are just another punk band", or "just another post-rock band" or whatever.
I guess everyone has their own way of discovering stuff. I hear the occasional interesting song on radio- heard one last week by a band that was apparently quite big on the UK shoegaze scene in the 1990s but who I had never heard of. I belong to a couple of music fora dedicated to particular artists, and invariably some of the other artists mentioned by those fans turn out to be to my taste as well. that's how I discovered Anathema. Would they have been in your list of new releases I wonder? Possibly, but I doubt it. Or Judy Dyble?

Commercial radio maybe. I have discovered some extraordinary stuff via the medium of community radio. And yes they play some crap too, but that's fine, I don't need to love every song, but if I like one track in three I will continue listening, because it's an actual program, curated by an actual person with their own particular slant on music, and that usually has nothing to do with whether or not it's commercially viable. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the guys at that station would be more likely to wear jeans and T-shirts rather than suits.

To listen to 9 or 10 or 11 new albums in a week, paying enough attention to each one to be able to write a proper review of it, is commendable... but if I did that I think my music listening would become a chore rather than a pleasure. I would expect to be paid for it. I wouldn't say I give my new album listens a "proper review".
I usually just have some smart ass comment
listening to a new album each morning on Spotify is just something
I like to do while I'm waking up with coffee and cigs and thc
I love to listen to something I have never heard before
that is the best time for me to do that
all by myself

I totally agree with your comments about community radio...
You listen to RTR and I spend a fair bit of time on CurtinFM (100.1) for the same reasons....
I've been listening to 720ABC in the early hours before sunrise for something different of late,
They play songs on there I've never heard on the radio( I know the songs though).

I like the way we often agree with music mate, but on occasion we disagree also like with Little Big Town, you hate it and I love it,
and that's the beauty or music, no two people are totally alike...different strokes and all that stuff.....!
