Saints lost 1-0 away to lower league club Sheffield United in the quarter finals of the League Cup. The humiliation makes five successive defeats for Saints. They've got Everton on Saturday.

I get a kick out of the upsets in the Cup finals playoffs! Remember Wimbledon's upset over Liverpool in the FA Cup?

Yes, a very famous final in 1988. Liverpool were fantastic and almost unbeatable in the eighties. Wimbledon goalkeeper Dave Beasant later joined Saints, but was sold, ironically, after a defeat to Liverpool. It was far from the end of his career and he enjoyed success with a string of big clubs. I think he is still working.

During the Wimbledon vs Liverpool match, Dave Beasant became the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in an FA Cup final. He was also the first goalkeeper to captain a team in an FA Cup final. Beasant played a lot of games for Chelsea, but only got a few England caps. I remember him being a larger-than-life character.
