Currently Watching?
my monthly Netflix account ends tomorrow and have subsequently cancelled my subscription to hop on board Disney+ for something different.

cant wait to watch the 9hr "Beatles: get back" 3 part documentary which is full of studio footage of the band rehearsing and recording the "let it be" album along with the full Savile Row rooftop concert but....

first up the Lucasfilm series "obi-wan kenobi" starring Ewan McGragor,
it is a direct follow on from "Star Wars: Episode III: revenge of the sith".

premise:

Ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)—in which the Jedi were destroyed by Order 66 and Obi-Wan Kenobi's apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, became the Sith Lord Darth Vader—Kenobi is in hiding on the planet Tatooine, watching over Anakin's son, Luke, when he is called on a mission to rescue Anakin's daughter, Leia, after she is kidnapped by the Galactic Empire's Jedi-hunting Inquisitors in a plot to draw Kenobi out. This leads to a confrontation between Kenobi and Vader.

cinema trip this morning to see the new biopic which centres around the relationship between Elvis Presley and his manager Tom Parker. the role of Parker was played by the brilliant Tom Hanks and he pulled off the accent, mannerisms and little nuances perfectly IMO.
Austin Butler, who i am not familiar with, portrayed Presley and did an admirable effort in bringing the role to life in a believable way.

it doesnt matter if you like the music of Presley or not, this is a movie about unscrupulous blood sucking managers and their influence over their artists and well worth watching as a casual fan or general music lover who may not know too much about Presley and who he was as a person, artist and familyman.

it is also a great movie for self confessed diehards like myself, but like the Bohemian Rhapsody movie there are little factual inaccuracies and inconsistencies that big fans like myself will pick up on,
not that they really alter the legacy or image of Elvis but are just out of place for us Presley-philes.

all up, an excellent movie which i thought was on par with Bohemian Rhapsody for music, story and acting and im not ashamed to say it but i shed a couple of tears ten minutes from the end (something the casual viewer most likely would not).

six part series about the rise and eventual implosion of The Sex Pistols...

one episode in and struggling to hold my attention but i will persist a bit longer.

just finished the 'limited series' of PISTOL.
i never really knew too much about the band (Sex Pistols) but i was aware that manager Malcom McLaren screwed them over monetary wise.
had no idea he screwed them over to the extent that this portrays him to, seems he was on a similar level to Tom Parker with his manipulation of Elvis.

so anyway, the series runs from the early formation of the band through to the death of Sid Vicious and ultimate capitulation of the group.

very well made and seems to be a warts and all no stone left unturned type show.

BBC World News:

an extensive interview with Billie Jean King.
interview was conducted in the hallowed halls of Wimbledon.
all subjects about her life were 'on the table'.
she is so dignified and professional yet personal/forthright and friendly in the interview, seems like a lovely lady
great stuff.

ALIEN COVENANT

on Amazon Prime:

a revisit,
first time ive seen this since i saw it at the cinema in 2017....
the second prequel to the Alien movie starring Sigourney Weaver...
not as bad as i remembered it to be, thus the five year wait to revisit....
still, not a great movie by any means, in fact the second worst of the six in the franchise....
