No, a place I would love to see but have not made it there yet. When I was flying back from Cameroun after a contract there I met an Argentinian girl (Barbara Richmond) on the flight to JHB. She had been visiting her boyfriend who was working in Cameroun. Anyway we got chatting and she showed me a photo album she had with her of places in Argentina and all over South America. It is an amazing continent. Patagonia would definitely be an attraction for me. BTW Barbara got stranded in JHB airport and only had CFA on her (Central African Francs) which the Currency Exchange counters would not accept in SA. Too volatile. Anyway, I put her up in a hotel near the airport and then drew some cash so she could get by as her connecting flight was only on the evening of the following day if I remember correctly. A young girl on her own in JHB overnight with no cash is a recipe for disaster. Many moons later I got an email from her father thanking me and he offered his home as accommodation if I ever decided to go to Argentina. I should have taken him up on his offer. Barbara tracked me down on Facebook some time after the trip - back in the day when I still had a FB account. Still have it but I never use it anymore.

And here is a really funny story that happened on the same flight - in fact it was after this incident that Barbara and I got chatting.

A French guy was staring at me intently a couple of rows up in the plane. He kept on turning around and looking at me. At first I thought - is this nut gay or what??
Then he got up and came over to me. He said 'You're Bruce Grobbelaar'. I said no I'm not. In those days when I had hair I resembled him. You have to remember this was when the Cameroun Soccer team was making a name for themselves around the world and he naturally assumed that I (in other words Bruce) was there to do some coaching. Anyway he insisted he wanted my autograph and would not go away. So I took out my passport and showed him my name. I said to him 'See, I am Jerome Disney'. He took one look at the passport and snorted 'Disney!! That's a fake passport!'

I kid you not.

Anyway, Barbara and I started chatting about the whole escapade after he stormed back to his seat and that's how we met. Don't think I will ever forget it. Quite surreal.

Next trip to SA I might dart over to South America on the way back and visit a few places.

Netflix series.

difficult to explain but Wiki describes it best...British dystopian Sci-Fi inspired by Twilight Zone.

each episode is a stand alone story.

three episodes in so far, im liking what i see.

just finished the series.
probably around 45 epidoes all up
some outright avant-garde and make no sense whatsoever
others are predictable
while around 30% are thought provoking, theyre the ones that deal with the internet/social media type stories.

all up it was passable but nothing to make me want to recommend fully to others.

Watched a fascinating program on the box last night called 'Zero Days'. All about the now famous Stuxnet virus/worm that was allowed to self-replicate all over the world. The Americans and the Israelis came up with this one to neutralize Iran's attempt to create an atomic bomb. The virus basically hid in the CPU of the PLC's controlling the plant - it fed false information to the SCADA systems that the technicians use to control the plant. It was telling them that everything was OK but it was systematically destroying the core components in the plant (centrifuges). Bloody clever. First decent program they have had on TV for ages.

could not find Zero Days on Netflix mate...guess im out of luck!

Netflix series:
six episodes based on the historical Battle of the Teutoburg Forest  which was fought between Germanic "barbarians" and the Roman Army in 9 A.D.

i learned all about this defeat of the Roman Empire in this region at school in the UK before i was 10.
i had to reaquaint myself with the story prior to commenceing the series and so far it appears fairly accurate.

Saw 'Zero Days' on local TV station RTE2. Don't think it's on Netflix but you might fight segments on YT. Well worth a watch.

2hr doco focusing on how our digital fingerprint is transformed by data collecting agencies, in this case Cambridge Analytical, and how they feed you information based on your searches/likes/transactions etc... Bloody scary stuff!!!!
its all about Psy-ops and the use of military grade cyber weapons  and how theyre aimed at influencing the user.
goes into how they helped Obama win in 2008, then tried to promote Cruz in 2016 before discrediting Hillary and finally supporting Trump, then it moves on to the online campaign pro-Brexit etc.
Facebook allowed them to use theur platform yet did nothing to disuade/stop it.

show is filmed with actors and scripted sections pus interviews/news footage of the people behind Cambridge Analytical/Facebook.

rating  4/5  a must watch IMO

i could sit and watch docos about the Reef time and time again (and i do) and am still in total awe of its beauty.
i will get there one day and see it for myself but until then....

Trumbo - a movie about Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo who was blacklisted by the powers that be who suspected him of being a commie rat. Found it very entertaining - good acting as well.

Now 94 years of age, David Attenborough has released what he calls his ‘witness statement’ in David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet. It should be compulsory viewing, IMHO – especially for those who casually and temporarily stroll through the corridors of power trailing mayhem in their wake.

Even the title is telling – this man is not having a rant, he epitomizes grace – it’s ‘our’ planet, and he’s spent pretty much his entire life exploring its natural facets. It's not a message of unmitigated doom, although that outcome is inevitable if our priorities don’t change in a major hurry! He gets straight to the point which is that we need to re-wild our planet or basically, by 2080, we won’t have one, and the time we do have left on it will become increasingly unpleasant.

As the movie progresses, it becomes blindingly evident how unimportant all the chittering political preeners are, and those hellbent on acquiring so-called assets and huge wealth at the expense of everything else - ridiculous really, if not downright criminal in some instances. And despite everything he knows and has experienced firsthand, or perhaps because he understands the nature of human beings, he’s kinder than most activists, and much, much wiser. What a gentleman! We need to listen to him.

I wonder if he and Edward Abbey ever crossed paths. Abbey said - “Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself.” He also said “Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell.”

I’m sure everyone who has Netflix will have seen the trailer. Worth a watch …
