What Are You Listening To?

[CRAZY-HORSE]

PAUL McCARTNEY  "McCartney II"  cd/vinyl/box-set  1980

his tenth post Beatles album of thirty-three
a hint of blues, ambient electronica, dance, acoustic, pop so i think it fits "alt" as opposed to specific threads
an 'accidental' album of sorts because Macca had just build a new home studio and he was trying out the equipment
Ringo came over for dinner and Paul played him a few tracks he'd been playing around with and ringo asked "is that your new album"
thus what was purely experimental personal jams became the album
its an album that still divides fans
for me personally i score it a solid 2.3 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

one of the deep cuts

[CRAZY-HORSE]

MORRISSEY  "world peace is none of your business"  cd  2014

his tenth of fourteen, i own five or six
although enjoyable, it didnt play out as good as i remembered it to be
album scores 1.7 from me which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

title track:

[CRAZY-HORSE]

XTC  "fossil fuel: the xtc singles 1977-92"

from Lynne's cd collection
a double cd disk, 31 tracks and just under two hours in length
i was never a fan and this does not change my opinion
i must be the only person on earth who cannot stand XTC and still dont
not one single song of thirty-one i remotely like
album scores 1.0 from me but i love the cover art
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

their biggest hit:

[Music Head]

^^

It's ok Lynne
you tried
I'm with ya

[CRAZY-HORSE]

JOY DIVISION & NEW ORDER "total: from joy division to new order" cd 2011

a compilation combining both bands
first five tracks are from Joy Division, the remaining thirteen, New Order
and both these artists cannot combine to make a comp that i remotely like
liked four of the Joy Division tracks and one of the New Order tracks
album scores 1.3 which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite:

[CRAZY-HORSE]

JOHNNY BLUE SKIES & THE DARK CLOUDS  "mutiny after midnight" cd/vinyl 2026

only of my 2026 release purchases

Sturgill Simpson's nineth studio album, second under the JBS name, i own them all
elements of rock, country, funk, jazz and disco...yes disco, on here
a solid album as always from the new Mr Eclectic...
not going to post a score, y'all gotta wait until my EOY ranking list.

one of the country sounding tunes:

JOE JACKSON  "hope and fury"  vinyl  2026

another birthday gift from Lynne
his twentieth studio album,
was released several months ago
has everything a JJ album should have
punk drenched anger on the opening track, elsewhere theres rock, ballads, jazz-pop fusion and gorgeous melodies
album is a concept album of sorts as it is bout his love/hate relationship with London,UK and New York
he keeps most of the lyrics quite obscure and abstract for the most part
album is decent but the score wont be revealed until my EOY rankings lists

lets go for this one

[CRAZY-HORSE]

R.E.M  "automatic for the people" cd, 1992

a revisit
from Athens, Georgia
their eighth of fifteen, from memory i own five, maybe six
i have two in the car at the moment, this and 'monster'
i thought i had gone off these guys a while ago but it appears it was all in my mind
well maybe i still have, but this one was a real treat to listen to it after so long
three massive hits on here, "drive", "everybody hurts" and "man on the moon"
those three are still radio airplay staples to this day and i never get sick of them
album scores 2.4 form me (lets see how 'monster' goes over the next couple of days)
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

on this occasion my favourite wasnt even one of the singles:

[CRAZY-HORSE]

R.E.M   "monster"  cd  1994

a revisit
their nineth, the follow up to my previous post above this
another enjoyable listen from a day or two ago
album scores the same as "automatic for the people" but i think i like the overall sound of that one more
so a score of 2.4 means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lead off single:

[CRAZY-HORSE]

RITZY KIDS  "high side of town"  cd  2026

from Lynne's collection
she purchased this one recently from the band Facebook page
they were giving it away for the cost of postage and packaging
from Queensland, Australia
the experts call them punk, i call them emo as they sound like Blink-182 and Good Charlotte
not really my thing, but hey, wLynne supported a young up and coming band which is good
album scores 1.4 from me which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
