MARK LANNEGAN BAND "blues funeral" cd, 2012
a revisit
lovely cover art
originally from Queens Of The Stoneage
seventh solo album
passed away in 2022 from Covid-19 complications aged 57
dude has an Eddie Vedder vocal quality
starts off grungy and bluesy for four or five tracks, i didnt like them
songs get more melodic after that, i like those ones
album makes the passing grade
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
fave:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

SHAWN MENDES "illuminate" cd, 2016
a revisit
his second of five, only one i own though
its got pop, rock and blues on it and he has a decent old school soul voice in places too
a solid album that i just think he ever came close to equalling again
album would rate a fairly decent 2.2-2.3 as a guess
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

ARCTIC MONKEYS "whatever people say i am, thats what im not" cd, 2006
a revisit
indi-rock band
debut album of seven
i own three i think, should own more though
teenagers when this was released,
songs about awkward spotty faced adolescents who are just too nerdy to 'get the girl' LOL
i guess we could all relate to these rough, raw and ragged songs
album actually stands up quite well and i enjoyed all thirteen songs
album would rate a decent 2.2 as a guess
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
this was my favourite back in the day and remains so today:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

ENGLISH TEACHER "this could be texas"
featured on the NME top-10 albums list so i thought i would give it a listen online
UK indi-pop/rock band
debut album
peaked at #8 in the UK and #5 on the Scottish chart.
a bit too dreamy and mellow but there are a few songs that did make the grade for me
but overall, not a bad album
lead off single (*and my fave)
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

ranks #9 on MOJO's end of year list
i couldnt decide where to put this so alternative it is
shes released a dozen or so albums in her career yet i cannot recall ever hearing or reading about her
reached #31 on the Scottish charts and #8 on the UK indi-rock charts earlier this year
another list maker had i have heard it previously
a couple of links from the album that stood out to me:
this one: Is Metal
and my fave:

STURGILL SIMPSON - "a sailor's guide to earth" cd/vinyl 2016:
a revisit
his third studio album
seems more soul/r+b in places than country complete with a horn section
only a couple of country tracks and an acoustic cover of Nirvana's "in bloom"
a decent album but upon reflection not as good as the first two albums
album would rate around 2.1 i guess as a rough guess which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
opening track (which i love)
just found a live performance of the entire album if anyone is interested:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

PRINCE "chaos and disorder" vinyl 1996
from Lynne's Prince collection
his eighteenth studio album
he had pretty well sunk into obscurity by this time
put the album in alt because there so many styles on here, funk, r+b, rock, garage rock and ballads
therefore it does not really fit anywhere but here
a solid collection of songs
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
three standouts for me
I Will I Will
Chaos And Disorder Chaos and Disorder
and the single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

DOPE LEMON "honey bones" cd/vinyl 2016
a revist
third solo album by Angus Stone of folk duo Angus & Julia Stone
dreamy pop and slightly psychedelic in places
opening track has a bit of a Paul Kelly vibe
some of the other tracks have a dreamy Crowded House vibe
a nice album but one i have to be in the mood for
album rates 2.0 because theres nothing brilliant nor is there anything bad on it
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
fave:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

DOPE LEMON "smooth big cat" cd/vinyl 2019
i thought i had previously posted this album but it appears i was mistaken...
Angus' fourth solo album
side one has the same dreamy whispy pop of the previous album
side two is a bit different, jazzy overtones and an acoustic number that sounds like it is a home recording
three of the ten tracks i love, liking the remainder which means this one scores 2.3 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
fave
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
