used to love Mumfords & Sons, but they seem to have become "yesterday's band" really quick IMO, performance was not too bad, but i am over them!

they also just seemed to be totally uninspired and uninspiring

Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z

i admit it okay...i am partial to Timberlake, has a decent voice for pop/soul
also, the jury is still out on Jay-Z, still cant make up my mind about him, love the stuff he did with Linkin Park, solo stuff can be good and bad,

tonight's duet performance was not bad IMO

Black Keys, loved their "el camino" album from the other year...

was slightly dissapointed with their live performance though, i guess i expected more "oomph!", sounded more like a pop group than alt-rock/blues

Kelly Clarkson...

"tennessee waltz" and "(you make me feel like) a natural woman" covers with piano accompanyment...pretty good versions, glad to see young/newish vocalists actually doing this sort of stuff, gives me hope that the music of the past will always be here even if its popularity doesnt always show that!

Bruno Mars...

impressive as always, great R+B/soul-man who can actually sing, dance and put on a decent performance...great stuff IMO, Sting also dueted with him, went off Sting decades ago, but did an okay job doing 'walking on the moon', was that a Marley with them?, i guess so as it was a tribute medley for old Bob

The Lumineers

some of the "modern folk" stuff, proving simplicity works just as well as more complicated material from other artists

Jack White

dissapointed with Jack live....for someone with such a huge anme and supposedly held in such high esteem by everyone on the industry he sure let me down tonight!

Hunter Hayes

not bad, but not great neither....reminds me of Bieber!!!!

Carrie Underwood

probably the second best performance of the night(equal with Fun. but not as good as Taylor Swift)

we all hate awards shows, yet here we are

So true. <_<

Music Head Wrote:Rihanna and somebody

This was the only performance I saw "live" (Happened to walk in while my parents were watching to see how it was going. Fun. is the only band in the past 20 years or so that my Dad likes, for whatever reason.) and I have to give credit where its due; that guitarist was really pretty good. I felt bad he was stuck playing 75th fiddle.

Music Head Wrote:Frank Ocean

still don't get the hype about this guy but whatever

Yeah, I don't get the hype either. He sounds like a slightly less nasally-congested Adam Levine to me. I don't really see the worth of either of them. But people are still carrying about how Frank Ocean was robbed because he didn't win all 6 awards he was nominated for. Come on people. He was nominated for 6 awards. There were deserving artists who didn't get nominated for a single award (Looking mainly at the entire rock genre which is treated criminally poorly by the Grammys committee.). I wouldn't exactly call it some terrible loss for the guy. <_<

All that said, I had 2 things I was optimistic about with the Grammys (First time I was excited about anything Grammys related in years), and neither came through. Sad Carly Rae Jepsen was screwed (2 nominations? For the most infectious single of the year? She couldn't even get a nomination for best new artist in a category with Frank Ocean, who has released multiple mix-tapes before Channel Orange and Fun., who had also already released an album before "Some Nights?" Sad ), and one of my favorite bands didn't even make it out of the regional round in that "Vote for some local independent band to play the Grammys museum that nobody's really going to watch but will still be fun and make the band feel relevant" contest (More commonly referred to as; "The Gig Of A Lifetime."). Ah well. I'll give the Grammys some credit; they had a lot of performances this year. They may not have been good, but at least they tried to pretend to put an emphasis on the music.
